JOB
Under limited supervision, the duties of the Psychology Instructor will include the following: Teaches assigned curriculum Psychology courses, meeting with students as needed, course development, and other general college duties. Additional responsibilities to the college: receive, review, process, submit and file a variety of documents and reports including FTE and LDA, course outlines/tests/syllabus, work orders, and other forms. This position reports to the Social Sciences Department Chair. Performs other duties as required.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Teaches assigned courses in Psychology. Performs related administrative and record keeping duties, such as evaluating course resources; preparing learning objectives, lesson plans, course syllabi, assessments, etc.; gathering resources for instruction; providing instruction both online and in-person; conducting critiques of student work; grading and feedback; maintaining the learning environment and ensuring community; providing attendance, end of semester reports, and other class-related data.Maintains accurate student data, ensures appropriate levels of privacy, and completes all reports and tracking in a timely manner.Demonstrates a thorough and accurate knowledge in the teaching discipline and employs appropriate teaching and learning strategies to communicate subject matter to students.Uses technology to enhance teaching and the educational experience when appropriate, and is able to provide instruction in face-to-face, hybrid/blended, and online learning environments. Faculty members may be required to teach day, evening, summer, online, hybrid, blended, dual enrollment, and/or weekend classes.Modifies, where appropriate, instructional methods and strategies to meet student needs.Encourages the development of communication skills and higher-order thinking skills through appropriate student assignments.Performs various student-related duties including academic advising, assisting with class registration, assisting with career planning and study skills, writing letters of recommendation, etc. Completes various student processes such as withdrawals, registration, drop/add, and credit-by-examination.Provides strong, effective support for the College’s Strategic Plan and Student Success initiatives and provides assistance with meeting goals.Remains active in professional organizations and continuing education activities. Stays abreast of the newest research and technological advances relative to the teaching of Psychology courses.Interfaces and communicates with individuals and groups outside of the Department, including Student Services, Trio, Registrar, Bookstore, Library, etc.Operates, utilizes and maintains various types of equipment and supplies including computers, copiers, general office supplies, general teaching supplies, remote learning technology, etc.Maintains good working relationships and communicates information within and outside of the Department. Serves on various College committees and organizations, and attends meetings as required. Assists part-time instructors and substitutes for colleagues as needed. Assists in preparing departmental objectives and initiatives.Responds to correspondence promptly, providing information and answering inquiries as appropriate. Performs related duties as directed.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to operate a variety of types of office and other equipment, including computer, copier, calculator, lab equipment, audio-visual equipment, etc. Must be physically able to exert up to twenty pounds of force occasionally and/or frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Physical demands are in excess of sedentary work; position requires walking, standing, stooping, reaching, crouching, etc., for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of approximately forty pounds.Data Conception: Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable functional, structural, or compositional characteristics (whether similar to or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people, or things.Interpersonal Communication: Requires the ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information. Includes giving instructions to students and receiving information and instructions from supervisor.Language Ability: Requires the ability to read a variety of documents, reports, and books, such as manuals, PCC handbook and catalog, various texts, etc. Requires the ability to prepare various documents and reports such as lesson plans, grade/evaluation reports, attendance reports, end-of-semester reports, long-range plans, etc., using proper format, punctuation, spelling, and grammar. Requires the ability to communicate with co-workers, supervisor, subordinates, other PCC personnel, etc., with poise, voice control, and confidence. Requires the ability to be conversant in the theory, principles, and methods of effective and persuasive speaking, voice and diction, phonetics, discussion, and debate.Intelligence: Requires the ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions; to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form. Must be able to deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Requires the ability to apply rational systems such as education (teaching), social science, etc., in order to solve problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables.Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to record and deliver information and to follow verbal and written instructions. Must be able to instruct others via effective verbal communication.Numerical Aptitude: Requires the ability to use mathematical formulas; add, subtract, multiply and divide numbers; determine percentages; utilize decimals; determine time and weight; apply descriptive statistics; etc.Form/Spatial Aptitude: Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width, and shape.Motor Coordination: Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes in utilizing automated office and audio-visual equipment.Manual Dexterity: Requires the ability to handle a variety of items, office equipment, control knobs, switches, etc. Must have moderate levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.Color Discrimination: Requires the ability to differentiate colors and shades of color.Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under moderate stress when confronted with an emergency.Physical Communication: Requires the ability to talk and/or hear (talking – expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words; hearing – perceiving nature of sounds by ear).PERFORMANCE INDICATORSKnowledge of Job: Has considerable knowledge of the practices, procedures, rules, and regulations of the Division and the College as they pertain to the position. Has comprehensive knowledge of the Department. Has extensive knowledge of the techniques, practices, and procedures of the courses taught, and can effectively instruct others in such. Has excellent knowledge of and skills in teaching methods and procedures as they relate to the goals of the Department and can apply principles of influence systems in such teaching. Has comprehensive knowledge of accounting and bookkeeping procedures as they relate to the position. Has the ability to compile, organize, prepare, and maintain an assortment of records, reports, and related information. Has the ability to use abstract thinking in curriculum planning, course planning, etc. Has excellent human relations skills; is able to advise students and handle student problems effectively. Has the ability to communicate with various individuals and groups such as students, staff, peers, other PCC personnel, parents, sales reps, etc. Can use independent judgment in routine as well as non-routine situations. Has comprehensive knowledge of the terminology utilized within the Department. Has the ability to understand the educational and psychological aspects of the job. Has the ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply regulations, procedures, and office operations. Can read, understand, and complete written requests and work assignments in a timely fashion. Knows how to estimate time, materials, and supplies required to complete various routine activities. Can promote efficient completion of duties. Has good organizational and management skills. Has the ability to operate office machines in the performance of duties. Has good knowledge of computers. Has the ability to work under stressful conditions related to heavy workloads, meeting deadlines, working with difficult students, handling large amounts of paperwork, etc. Has the ability to make sound, educated decisions in a variety of areas on a constant basis.
