The Pittsburg State University Department of Teaching and Leadership is accepting applications for a full-time generalist tenure-earning Elementary Education position with a field of study in curriculum and instruction, elementary education, reading, or related fields. Pittsburg State University, a Kansan regional university with an enrollment of 6,000 students, is located in the vibrant city of Pittsburg, Kansas. The department of Teaching and Leadership, currently serves 250 undergraduate students and 443 graduate students and offers programs both at the bachelor and master level. Specific courses taught will depend on areas of expertise of the candidate and the needs of the department.
Duties and Responsibilities
- May teach undergraduate and graduate courses.
- Teach face-to-face and virtually.
- Design and deliver quality and engaging coursework in both environments.
- Conduct scholarly activity in an area of education through research and practice in public schools.
- Provide service to the department, college and university.
- Advise or mentor students.
Education and Experience
Required Education and Experience – Time of Hire
- Candidates must have an ABD or a terminal degree in curriculum and instruction, elementary education, reading, or a related field at the time of hire. Candidates who have completed their terminal degree by the start date are strongly preferred.
- Documented experience in teaching at the elementary level.
Preferred Education and Experience –
- Experience in teaching reading, language arts, or science of reading at the k-6 level.
