JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
The Assistant Custodian A, under the direction of the Custodian, is responsible for providing daily maintenance, operation and care of a particular building assigned to. Assistant Custodian A is assigned to the larger school buildings is to replace the Custodian in his absence.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Keep the buildings and premises including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas clean at all times. Cleaning includes, but is not limited to, washing surfaces using the required chemicals where necessary, replacing light bulbs and cleaning fixtures, emptying wastebaskets and pencil sharpeners, disposing of waste and separating recyclables according to local laws, washing interior and exterior glass and windows, washing desks, lockers, walls and floors as needed, dusting surfaces and cleaning univents, and oil motors as needed.
2. Assistant Custodian A, under the direction of Plant Operations, regulate heat, ventilation and air conditioning systems to provide temperatures appropriate to the season an to ensure economical usage of fuel, water, and electricity.
3. Assistant custodians shovel, plow and salt walks, driveways, parking areas, and steps as directed.
4. Assistant Custodian A checks daily to ensure building security and that all exit doors are open and locked at appropriate times of the day, and panic hardware is working properly. They assume the responsibility for operating and closing the building each day and for determining (before leaving) that all doors and windows are secured, and all appropriate lighting is turned off except for night lights, and checks all boilers for banking or night deposit operation.
5. Assistant Custodian A performs supervision of all operational personnel regarding quality of work, work assignment, and issuing supplies.
6. Assistant Custodian A oversees the operation of the building for all evening use. (Night school, permits, recreation).
7. Assistant Custodian A provides protection of the building during the work shift and security of the building upon leaving for the night.
8. Assistant Custodian A performs an approximate 4-hour cleaning work assignment.
9. The Assistant Custodian A must be available for emergency call out to board up broken windows, to reset boilers, or respond to break-ins and other building problems as needed.
EDUCATION REQUIRED
High School Diploma or GED (General Education Development)
CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE REQUIRED
Steam Boiler Fireman License required.
Pool Certification required
Allegheny County and State
HVAC experience required
