POSITION TITLE
Early Childhood, Health Assistant
JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
The Early Childhood Health Assistant is directly supervised by the Early Childhood Health Coordinator and is responsible for assisting and supporting the Early Childhood Health Coordinator in providing, creating, and maintaining comprehensive health services and record-keeping within the Early Childhood Program which support Head Start Guidelines and Early Childhood Policy and Procedure, preparing children for success in school.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Under the supervision of Health Coordinator and in collaboration with Early Childhood Health Services Staff and Early Childhood Family Services Staff, assist to ensure that health services are provided, including implementing health plans and teacher training, follow up is completed with parents/families and documentation is entered in computer data base. This includes:
a. Sensory and growth screening for each child to be completed within 45 calendar days of enrollment and ongoing.
b. Determination of each child's health status and support to families in accessing treatment and follow up services for identified health conditions within 90 calendar days of enrollment and ongoing.
c. In partnership with parents/families, determine each child's oral health status and support families in accessing treatment and follow up services for identified health conditions within 90 calendar days of enrollment and ongoing.
2. Process release of information forms and communicate with families and Physician office staff to obtain written documentation of required health and dental care documentation.
3. Implementation of weekly Dental Clinic to include preparation of supplies and paperwork, assist visiting dental staff with facilitation of exams onsite, complete follow up with families when treatment is recommended, processing of exam paperwork, entry of data in computer base.
4. Provide guidance under the supervision of the Health Coordinator to classroom staff in accordance with Early Childhood policy and procedure on a day to day basis concerning illness, injury, head lice, skin conditions or any other health/nutritional issue that arises.
5. Work in accordance with Health Coordinator to organize and distribute Health and Nutritional supplies to Program Staff throughout school year.
6. Assist Health Coordinator in facilitation of community resources participating to provide educational and/or health events at different program sites.
7. Other relevant duties as assigned by supervisor in support of the department’s or school’s goals and objectives and the District’s mission and Superintendent’s Priority Goals.
EDUCATION REQUIRED
High School Diploma or GED (General Education Development)
CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE REQUIRED
Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse with Pediatric Experience desired
Must have a PA Driver’s License and be able to travel from school to school frequently

- Education, and experience in nursing to include pediatric health, nutrition, child development, first aid, and safety.

- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
