Job Description Summary
The Coordinator K-5 Mathematics is directly supervised by the Executive Director STEM and is responsible for leading and supporting a vision for K-12 Mathematics in the District that is focused on raising student achievement and creating high-quality learning experiences for all students. This position plans, implements, and supports
K-5 mathematics instruction and programing while evaluating and improving the quality of school K-5 mathematics programs.
The Coordinator K-5 Mathematics works alongside the 6-8 and 9-12 teams in aligning core Mathematics curriculum and assessments to the PA and Common Core State Standards. The position plans and executes professional development for K-5 teachers and principals as well as supports Math Academic Coaches through the provision of support, feedback, and professional learning opportunities to enhance their effectiveness.
This position establishes and monitors goals and metrics for student academic achievement and teacher performance in mathematics, utilizing data to drive continuous improvement. Additionally, this role assist in the provision of appropriate materials, equipment and texts for the Pittsburgh Board of Public Education.

Essential Functions
- Lead and provide support to all teachers to assist with the implementation of the district's curriculum, assessments, programs and interventions.
- Work closely with the 6-8 and 9-12 Mathematics Coordinators to modify and design core curriculum and assessments to align to the PA and Common Core State Standards and to the District's quality curriculum standards.
- Lead and plan professional development at the school and district level to develop teacher practice and knowledge of academic standards, core curriculum, instruction, assessment, and intervention programs, including but not limited to facilitating collaborative study groups and learning walks.
- Work closely with the Professional Development department to implement an effective professional development system, with a focus on new teachers.
- Collaborate with other content directors and supervisors to support math across all content areas, including PreK, Special Education, English as a Second Language and Career and Technical Education, and the Equity department.
- Serve as a resource for identification and support of instructional strategies, materials, and interventions to address diverse learning needs.
- Model effective classroom teaching practices and debriefing observations of practice with coaches and teachers.
- Provide supportive and constructive feedback with non-evaluative observation protocols to promote effective instructional practices and implementation of district-approved strategies.
- Collaborate closely with Assistant Superintendents in the Office of School Performance to support school and district-wide initiatives related to mathematics education.
- Partner with school principals to provide targeted support to mathematics teachers and departments. Support includes instructional walkthroughs, coaching coordination, contribution to school improvement plans, alignment of professional learning, and direct instructional support.
- Support and work closely with ITLs and Mathematics Coaches.
- Provide targeted and differentiated support for teachers and mathematics coaches based on need.
- Participate in regular Curriculum and Instruction department meetings and Learning and Leading Institutes.
- Work with the K-12 Executive Director and other math staff to develop and implement both short and long-range plans.
- Stay abreast of current research-based instructional theory and practices in the areas of content, curriculum design and research-based instructional theory and practices.
- Work collaboratively with principals and members of Performance Management to ensure adherence and support of the district's teacher evaluation system.
- Utilize data to develop, implement, and monitor action plans to improve student outcomes and teacher practices related to math programs.
- Actively participate in and monitor the process of developing and administering Curriculum-Based Assessments for and to schools.
- Participate in professional networks and associations; develop and sustain outsider partnerships.
- Work collaboratively with the Human Resources department in the recruitment and staffing of math positions.
- Other relevant duties as assigned by supervisor in support of the Department's goals and objectives and the District's mission and Superintendent's Priority Goals.
- Master's Degree preferred
Pennsylvania Principal or Curriculum Supervisory certifications required.
Pennsylvania Department of Education Instructional Certification in required subject area.

- Demonstrated ability to lead teams and work collaboratively with school leaders, school staff and other district stakeholders towards a common goal.
- Documented success in improving student achievement in an urban school preferred.
- Knowledge of Pennsylvania standards, initiatives and assessments.
- Proven ability to monitor and analyze the implementation of programs across multiple sites and fostering continuous improvement of programming by utilizing data.
- Extensive knowledge of content-based pedagogy, assessment and technology
- A capacity to solve problems, to stay organized and manage multiple priorities
- Ability to work collaboratively as a team player, under pressure with multiple competing deadlines, and with culturally, educationally, and racially diverse internal and external customers.
- Excellent presentation, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated proficiency in MS Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Word. (Clever, Schoology or other Educational Technology platforms preferred)
