Job Overview:
The Building Custodian’s mission is to maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors. Attention to detail, commitment to hygiene, and consistent care play an essential role in creating a space that is comfortable, safe and conducive for education and community engagement. Duties include cleaning, maintenance and groundskeeping.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Indoor:
- Wash windows and mirrors.
- Take out the trash.
- Wipe down and sanitize surfaces.
- Clean, sanitize, and stock restrooms and classrooms.
- Dust and remove cobwebs.
- Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors and stairways.
- Organize the janitor and supply closets and store all supplies and tools.
- Clean walls and furniture.
- Complete minor repairs, like switching light bulbs and unclogging toilets.
- Change batteries in clocks, exit signs and other equipment.
- Break down and set up tables and chairs for meetings and events.
- Assist in decluttering and organizing basement storage.
- Retrieve supplies and furniture as needed from the basement storage.
- Completes maintenance projects as directed
Outdoor:
- Handle leaf and sidewalk snow removal as needed, including spreading salt.
- Mow lawns, trim hedges, weeds and water plants.
- Wash exterior windows.
- Use common cleaning tools and outdoor power equipment.
- Empty outdoor trash and ashtrays.
- Sweep and remove litter.
- Lock and unlock the dumpster to ensure access.
General:
- Follow instructions from the Director of Operations.
- Notify the Director of Operations when major repairs are needed.
- Fill out janitorial checklists at the end of every shift.
- Follow closing procedures at the end of shifts.
- Perform inventory for related supplies and equipment.
- Follow safety rules and precautions.
- Adhere to company policies and procedures.
Building Custodian Qualifications and Skills:
- Work well independently and have strong time management and organizational skills. Follow written and verbal instructions from management.
- Collaborate with other staff members as needed.
- Handle the physical demands of the job, including standing and walking for most of the shift, reaching, bending, kneeling, climbing ladders, and stairs.
- Able to lift, manipulate and carry at least 75 pounds.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- At least 2 years of professional cleaning experience is preferred.
- Familiarity with Material Safety Data Sheets.
- Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and supplies.
- Ability to safely operate equipment and machinery related to the job.
Work Schedule:
- Part time schedule minimum 10 hours per week, maximum 15 hours per week.
- Sunday through Thursday from 5 pm to 7:00 pm is required for indoor cleaning and maintenance with the exception of Holidays.
- Outdoor maintenance, additional indoor cleaning and maintenance and event preparation schedule can vary.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $15.00 per hour
