What are the responsibilities and job description for the Certified Veterinary Technician position at Pittsburgh Veterinary Cardiology?
Pittsburgh Veterinary Cardiology is a small, privately owned, cardiology practice looking for a certified veterinary technician to join our amazing team. We consider ourselves a close knit group with an emphasis on a positive work/life balance.
We pride ourselves in taking the greatest care of not only our patients but our clients. Our technicians maintain strong relationships with our clients that are cultivated by helping them navigate the sometimes scary waters of diagnosed heart disease in their beloved pet.
We primarily see outpatient appointments but we also perform cardiac surgeries such as pacemaker implantation, balloon valvuloplasty and PDA repair.
We are primarily based at the North Hills (807 Camp Horne Road) location but also see outpatient appointments in Washington, PA three days a week. Depending on the needs of the practice, the employee may be scheduled at either location.
Responsibilities
- Patient Care under direct veterinary supervision:
- Anesthesia: induction, intubation, maintenance and recovery, intravenous sedation
- Establish open airway
- Administer resuscitative oxygen procedures
- Administer external cardiac resuscitation
- Administer resuscitative drugs, in the event of cardiac arrest
- Patient Care under indirect veterinary supervision (unless patient is under anesthesia, then direct veterinary supervision is required):
- Perform diagnostic imaging
- Perform intravenous catheterization
- Administer and apply medications and treatments by routes, including oral, intramuscular, intravenous and subcutaneous
- Perform cardiac monitoring
- Patient care with no supervision:
- Emergency treatment (resuscitative procedures) when patient has been placed in a life-threatening condition and immediate treatment is necessary to sustain the patient’s life Animal restraint
- Obtain vitals including Doppler blood pressure
- Adhere to sterile protocols/procedures
- Maintain patient medical files (electronic)
- Pharmacy: drug conversion, labeling, accuracy, filling
- Kennel duties
- Act as a liaison between Clients, Referring Veterinarians, co-workers, etc.
- Provide education to clients in regards to at-home care and safety precaution specific to cardiology patients.
- Responsible for a clean work station and treatment area
- Complete any additional tasks not specified and/or assignments as requested by the Owner Doctor, Associate Doctor(s), and/or Department Manager.

Experience:
- One year of experience as a Veterinary Technician required.
- Three years experience as a Veterinary Technician preferred.

Pay: From $21.00 per hour
