We are seeking a skilled and dedicated CNC Programmer - Modelmaker (2nd shift) to join our Placon team. The CNC Programmer - Modelmaker will be responsible for fabricating prototype molds, producing sample thermoformed products, maintaining lab equipment, and assisting in new product development projects. The CNC Programmer - Modelmaker role requires the successful candidate to have the ability to interpret Solidworks models, CNC programming with Gibbscam, and effective coordination with designers to meet project deadlines. It also requires the CNC Programmer - Modelmaker to have a strong mechanical aptitude and adherence to safety protocols are essential in this fast-paced, hands-on role.
Work Hours : Monday - Friday | 2 : 30 PM - 11 : 00 PM
Essential Accountabilities
- CNC Programming : Utilize CNC programming software to ensure efficient and high-quality products
- Operate CNC Machines : Set up and operate CNC Mills, CNC Laser, Etc.
- Fabrication of Prototype Molds : Create prototype Thermoforming molds based on Solidworks models and read prototype drawings accurately to ensure specifications are met.
- Sample Part Fabrication : Produce sample prototype parts for customer evaluation, ensuring accuracy and quality control.
- Equipment Maintenance : Maintain prototype lab equipment, including ordering necessary repair components and ensuring everything is in working order.
- Safety Compliance : Adhere to all safety regulations and maintain a clean, organized work area at all times.
- ISO Compliance : Understand and comply with all ISO QSP's and work instructions relevant to your role.
- Cross-Departmental Assistance : While the majority of work will take place in the Sample Lab, you may be required to assist in the Tool Shop as needed.
- Schedule Management : Support the Lead Modelmaker with maintaining the production schedule and adjusting it to meet deadlines.
- Project Coordination : Collaborate with Designers to coordinate project timelines and ensure that we meet deadlines.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate degree in Modelmaking, Prototyping, or a related field
Four (4) years of experience in Modelmakeing or Prototyping
Four (4) years of experience in CNC Machining, with strong 3D conceptual skills and an understanding of mechanical functions.

The following machine shop equipment : CNC mills, lathes, mills, grinders, cutter grinders, drill presses, band saws, table saws, digitals, welders, sandblasters, jigsaws, die bending equipment and bench grinders.
Working knowledge of the safe and effective use of the following hand tools : air routing drills, sanding equipment, hand drills, hand grinders, lay out instruments, gauge blocks, dial venires, dial indicators, micrometers, etc.
