We own an extensive network of pipeline transportation, terminalling, storage and gathering assets in key crude oil and NGL producing basins and transportation corridors and at major market hubs in the United States and Canada. Plains' internship opportunities have been specifically designed to provide students the opportunity to apply their academic studies and gain valuable experience through meaningful and challenging work.
Plains’ has great opportunities for two highly motivated students to join our Land Records team in our Houston office for a 3-month term position beginning May 19, 2025. The successful students will be responsible for electronically creating land records maps, geographical information system (GIS) layers, electronic data, and geographic computer files by interpreting land record source data.
Responsibilities
For our summer internship program, we look for sophomores, juniors, or seniors, working toward a bachelor's degree with solid academic credentials along with significant extracurricular involvement. Strong written and verbal communications skills are key to our business as well as having strong attention to detail. Students must demonstrate effective planning and organizational skills, proficiency with Microsoft products (MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), and a strong desire to learn more about the Oil and Gas business.

Responsibilities
- Generate, revise and update land records maps using ArcMap and Google Earth;
- Map legal descriptions in easements, surface leases, deeds and other land agreements in ArcGIS using protocols;
- Review alignment maps to identify different pipeline systems and associated surface ownership;
- Plot metes and bounds descriptions of real property and read a variety of maps such as surveys in electronic and paper form;
- Prepare maps, KMZ’s, SHP files, Geodatabase, etc. using ArcGIS and Google Earth;
- Review legal descriptions, surveys and check for accuracy;
- Incorporate 3rd party data, as needed, into company databases for mapping purposes;
- Matching archived maps from SharePoint to database records as well as GIS; and
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Candidates must be pursuing an undergraduate degree in Geographic Information Science and Technology;
- Prior intern/student work experience is considered an asset;
- Demonstrated strong analytical and organizational skills;
- Prior experience using various mapping software, particularly ArcGIS, Google Earth, and Deed Plotter Software;
- Proficiency with MS Office including Excel, Word, SharePoint and Outlook;
- Proven flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing business conditions;
- Excellent computer and communication skills;
- Ability to work well within a fast-paced team environment and under minimal supervision;
- Preference will be given to a student who will be returning to university to finish their undergraduate degree following the completion of this work term;
- Interns must be able to commit to a full 3-month work term starting May 19, 2025, to be considered for the program; and
- The successful candidate must provide satisfactory references and complete a Criminal Background Check.
