Job Description: EHS Specialist
Location: Thousand Oaks, CA
Duration: 1-year contract
Target Pay Rate: $51/hour (with flexibility) – Market Rate
Onsite Requirement: 5 days a week, preference for candidates within 1 hour of Thousand Oaks
Relocation: Not available for this role
Key Qualifications:

Primary Responsibilities:
- Be onsite a minimum of 3 days a week (could be up to 5 days).
- Walk through buildings and interact with clients.
- Review equipment change controls.
- Lead and conduct accident investigations.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
- Strong experience in safety with an emphasis on OSHA and industrial safety (including risk assessments and hazard evaluations).
- Self-sufficient with strong communication skills and the ability to provide clear, actionable messaging.
- Preference for candidates with a background in industrial safety rather than just department-level safety reps
Red Flags:
- Candidates unwilling to work onsite at least 3 days a week.
- Lack of industrial safety experience (candidates who only served as department safety reps).
- Overqualified candidates with more than 6 years of experience.
- Relocation candidates.
Interview Process:
- Initial phone interview followed by an onsite interview.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS), Occupational Safety, or related field.
- At least 2-3 years of experience in safety and health programs.
- Industrial safety background, ideally with experience in pharmaceutical/biotech environments.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work independently.
Nice-to-Have Qualifications:
- Experience in privileged environments.
- Degree in Occupational Safety (e.g., from CSUN).
- Experience with risk management and regulatory compliance.
Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced professional to support and lead safety and health programs at our Thousand Oaks location. The successful candidate will play a key role in improving safety programs and supporting the development of safety and health strategies across the campus. The role will involve strong leadership, collaboration with cross-functional teams, and support for industrial safety, contractor safety, environmental compliance, process safety, and industrial hygiene initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and assist with the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of safety and health programs.
- Focus on advancing core safety initiatives, including contractor and industrial safety, environmental compliance, process safety, and industrial hygiene.
- Provide expert guidance to support various EHS disciplines and collaborate with subject matter experts across the campus.
Basic Qualifications:
- EHS bachelor’s degree and at least 3 years of relevant experience supporting safety and health programs.
- Experience with chemical and biological manufacturing, including laboratory operations.
- Familiarity with safety regulations, hierarchy of controls, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and monitoring equipment.
- Strong leadership and team-building capabilities.
- Process-oriented with a focus on Operational Excellence.
- Strong oral, written, and technical communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant software systems.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5 years of experience in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry, specifically in leading industrial safety programs.
- Proven track record in supporting and implementing safety and health programs.
- Expertise in conducting risk assessments and developing sampling strategies.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to lead teams and influence management.
