POSITIONSUMMARY:
While prioritizing excellent customer service, the Laboratory Coordinator oversees the day-to-day operations of the lab. Functions in various roles including overseeing controls, ordering, and staff proficiencies. Works closely with all health center staff including clinicians and physicians.
Responsibilities:
- Train new and current staff in all required laboratory testing, maintain and track competencies for staff twice a year, and follow up with staff who are not meeting proficiency standards.
- Ensure all specimens are handled, processed, and reconciled in accordance with laboratory procedures and PPLM policy.
- Oversee lab set up, cleaning, and quality control documentation – taking and documenting corrective action as needed.
- Oversee laboratory equipment by ensuring calibration and maintenance. Provide troubleshooting as needed.
- Oversee laboratory supplies and ordering of Quest supplies.
- Follow all Universal and Standard Precautions and procedures for biohazard and sharps waste disposal.
- Ensure efficient patient flow in the lab.
- Adhere to and enforce established policies and procedures necessary to meet regulatory requirements with agencies such as DPH (Department of Public Health), OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Act), PPCGB, PPLM and PPFA (Planned Parenthood Federation of America).
- Follow HIPAA (Health Insurance and Portability and Accountability Act) guidelines and maintain professional confidentiality of all patient health information.
- Create and sustain a healthy work environment and work effectively with all members of the health center to ensure accuracy and efficacy of laboratory procedures.
- Serve as point of contact for any laboratory consultants.
- High school diploma/GED mandatory
- Medical lab technician certification preferred
- Minimum 1-3 years of experience in a health care clinic setting
- Familiarity with in-office laboratory testing
- Experience working with EHR (Electronic Health Record) preferred
- Past management experience preferred
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to lift 30lbs and have sufficient stamina to move efficiently throughout the health center for 90% of scheduled shift.
- Ability to bend and reach for stocking inventory and supplies.
- Must be able to respond to various situations efficiently and effectively.
- Schedule requirements may include daytime, evenings, and some Saturdays
- Depending on the location travel may be required.
