Performance Responsibilities
- Provides equitable intellectual and physical access to information and ideas in support of the curriculum for a diverse community of learners.
- Plans and implements the access to and delivery of a full range of information resources and services through the library media program.
- Demonstrates knowledge and mastery of information literacy standards for student learning by creating and maintaining a program for a broad learning community.
- Encourages and engages students in reading, viewing, and listening for understanding and enjoyment.
- Insures the collection and functions of the library media program respond to various developmental levels, physical and intellectual disabilities, special gifts and talents, diverse cultural backgrounds, and different styles of accessing and processing information.
- Plans and provides instruction in the five cross-disciplinary abilities as they apply to the Illinois Learning Standards.
- Displays knowledge about information, instruction, and production-based technologies that enhance learning and teaching; and is knowledgeable about both the access to information and the operation of the devices that deliver, produce, and manage that information.
- Demonstrates leadership in curricular planning and assessment.
- Communicates effectively with students, faculty, staff, administrators, parents, and the community.
- Uses active listening skills to assist learners in locating, evaluating, and using information.
- Plans instruction collaboratively with teachers and other members of the learning community.
- Serves as an educational leader and as a catalyst for improving the learning community.
- Plans and efficiently administers a program that makes a significant contribution to students' learning.
- Leads, collaborates, and applies technology skills in designing and managing a program that is integrated into the schools' curriculum and supports the development of effective users and communicators of ideas and information within a lifelong, independent learning process.
- Plans purposeful tasks and assignments for instructional aide(s) and volunteer(s), and (as appropriate) evaluates job performance in cooperation with the building principal.
- Respects confidentiality and maintains accurate and complete records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation.
- Performs all assigned duties, serves on building or district committees, and attends staff meetings as may be requested or as established by school policy.
- Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students, parents and colleagues concerning both the academic and behavioral progress of students; seeks appropriate information and assistance (e.g. translation, collegial consultation, administrative guidance, etc.) as needed to support students' continuous growth and development.
- Adheres to the published policies and procedures of the district.
- Performs such other, and not specifically enumerated, duties as may be requested by district administrators, or as established by the School Code.
