Job Summary
The Material Handler/Alternate Driver works under the general supervision of the Distribution Manager and the direct supervision of the Shipping Leadman or Receiving Leadman depending on the assigned location. This job requires the ability to safely operate material handling equipment to properly load and unload trucks and to store and retrieve raw materials and finished goods. It also requires accuracy in relation to quantities received or shipped, paperwork, location tracking, order setup, shipment loading and other functions in accordance with established procedures. The Material Handler is assigned to Shipping and Receiving based on daily demands and rotates between areas on a regular basis to maintain proficiency.
Receiving Duties:
- Loads and unloads trucks or trailers and services production departments as required.
- Receives materials, supplies, equipment and machinery at North Ave. plant or Eisner warehouse, as assigned. Verifies receipts with packing slip for correctness of quantities and code numbers, inspects for damage, generates Q.A. lot numbers and receives material into the ERP system. Records mismarked containers, quantity discrepancies and damaged receipts on carrier's bill of lading and reports to Leadman.
- Palletizes product when necessary. Transports and stores material in designated areas using lift trucks, hand trucks, hoists and other devices.
- Restocks multiple storage areas in Resin or Materials Departments with such items as lime and wood flour, as directed. Conducts inventory check of raw material stored in holding areas when directed by Leadman.
- Transports pallets to designated sorting or storage areas, as required. Delivers used pallets to North dock. Air blows pallets in hood to remove debris. Sorts according to type and condition.
Shipping Duties:
- Loads and unloads trucks or trailers as directed by the Shipping Leadman or Distribution Manager.
- Receives materials, supplies, equipment and machinery at Eisner warehouse, as assigned. Verifies all receipts with packing slip for correctness of quantities and code numbers and inspects for damage. Reports any discrepancies to supervision. Transports and stores material in designated areas.
- Unloads shuttle trailers of raw materials, supplies or finished goods. Determines proper storage location, transports and stores in safe manner, and records necessary inventory and storage information.
- Reviews and verifies order paperwork and prepares shipments of finished product as directed. Prepares partial pallets of material if needed. Sets up customer orders by gathering all necessary products, ensuring quantities and types of materials are correct, properly labeling pallets, and preparing shipment according to customer requirements. Loads shipments on correct trailers, verifying and completing all necessary shipping paperwork. Ensures shipments are properly loaded to comply with weight requirements and prevent product damage during transit.
- Prepares samples of products for shipment to customers as directed.
Alternate Driving Duties:
- Substitutes for and performs all duties of Semi-Truck Driver or Material Handler/Truck Driver, as assigned. Maintains active Class A - Commercial Driver’s License.
Qualifications
- Class A CDL required
- Proven experience in materials handling or warehouse operations.
- Strong knowledge of operating pallet jacks, forklifts, and other heavy equipment.
- Familiarity with warehouse management systems is preferred.
- Ability to perform order picking tasks accurately under time constraints.
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Strong commitment to safety practices in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team setting.
