Job Summary:We are hiring an energetic leader to serve as summer Camp Director at our Maplewood, NJ location. Camp Directors manage their program while remaining active and on the ground all day with their campers and staff, adventuring right beside them.
Job Responsibilities:
Guide the Camper Experience.
- Organize, launch, and run your local camp program bringing stories to life for campers.
- Promote imaginative exploration through creativity, inclusivity, and self- expression.
- Elevate and implement camp programming with classic camp materials to meet our mythological and fantastical themes.
- Encourage physical, intellectual, and social-emotional growth for our campers, while also adhering to our safety policies and procedures.
Empower Your Staff.
- Lead your staff to have resiliency and thorough programming knowledge through training that allows them to develop the growth of our campers.
- Provide on-going mentorship and feedback on their performance and duties. .
- Train and coach staff on appropriate parent communications, camper supervision and active engagement.
Build a Community of Heroes.
- Support camper and staff retention by creating an experience that they want to return to.
- Manage a team of approximately 18 staff members.
Lead Your Team.
- Coordinate and delegate responsibilities with your staff team.
- Coordinate logistics to keep camp running smoothly.
Work in Partnerships.
- Build and maintain relationships with parents, park officials, and community partners.
- With the team at headquarters, manage your camp’s online registration database, answer parent and vendor emails, and maintain the communication hub for camp.
Steel your Resolve.
- Work in an energetic all-outdoor environment.
- We are looking for courageous individuals who do not shy away from responsibility and physical exertion, even during the heat of summer or a rainfall.
- A Camp Director will spend most of their day on their feet and walk anywhere from 15,000-18,000 steps/day on the job, across changes in elevation and varying terrain.
The Hours:
- 45-50 hours/week in-person at your camp location for 7 program weeks and 1 training and admin week
- Remote, online training and prep work pre-season.
- Camp Schedule: 8:00 am-4:30pm; Monday-Friday (Campers present 8:45-4:10)
- Varied evening administration hours (virtual)
What are we looking for?
- Experience working with groups of children aged 7 to 13, summer camp setting preferred.
- Experience managing communications and experience of parents and caregivers.
- Experience, as a leader, setting and maintaining standards of performance for a team.
- Ability to inspire others, preferably early career employees.
- Strong conflict resolution, delegation, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to maintain stamina and endurance over the course of the camp season in an outdoor environment.
- In a team, able to lift 25-50 lbs of camp materials
- Employment is contingent upon passing a background check.
Benefits and Compensation
- Compensation. $1,200/week for 8 weeks of in-season work
- Pre-Season Work/Training (April-May): hours vary at $20 an hour
- Referral Bonus: $50 bonus for any referred applicants who are hired and work at least 4 weeks.

- Free Camp. If you have children, you will be provided with free day camp sessions for up to two children. If you don’t have children, you may gift one week of free day camp to someone else.
Please keep in mind the start and end dates for our Maplewood, NJ season;
- Camp Training takes place the week of June 23rd
- Camp runs June 30th-August 15th
