Description
The main purpose of the Newport Site Director is to be the lead administrator at the Newport campus at all times. This individual will serve as a point person to all staff, campers, and families and oversee the day-to-day operations of the camp. The Newport Site Director will meet as needed with the Summer Camp Director to discuss progress and ongoing planning prior to the start of camp. Full-Time work will run from the week camp begins in June through the week camp ends to bring closure to the summer. The Newport Site Director reports to the Camp Director.
Primary roles include:
Staff
- Serves as the supervisor to teachers at this building
- Leads a staff meeting every week outlining key details about the week
- Receives teacher absences and coordinates the building Community Teachers to fill in
- Meets with Traditional Camp head teachers and associate teachers and provides feedback and input regarding their self-evaluations
- Maintains contact with all teachers throughout the week to support as needed
- Counsels and supports teachers in creating a plan for campers with behavior challenges
Campers and Families
- Supports positive camper behavior and discipline
- Establishes and maintains family communication, as necessary
- Contributes to the weekly family newsletter and distributes to incoming families
- Is visible at drop off and pick up times for any verbal family communication
Operations
- Maintains organizational methods to track inventory of consumables, eg. camp bags, shirts, games, art materials, and snacks going to be issued to or used by campers
- Pulls reports from camp database, UltraCamp, and makes student information folders to be distributed to all building staff, as well as maintaining and updating building signage
- Ensures a safe environment for students, staff, and families by upholding current procedures and implementing additional ones as necessary
- Monitors inventory levels and communicates with the Summer Camp Director for all replenishment requests
Program
- Leads all camp meetings each week
- Meets with Traditional Programs Director to work in tandem in preparation for theme fun events
- Engages and co-leads Friday Theme Fun activities with the Traditional Programs Director
Other General Camp Responsibilities
- Attends and leads portions of Summer Camp Staff Orientation and Family Orientation
- Sets up buildings for camp with the Program Directors, Camp Director, and Auxiliary Programs Director
- Promotes camp spirit – able to lead whole camp events like morning meetings and camp cheers
- Attends field trips on an as-needed basis
- Assists in the breakdown of camp with Program Directors, Summer Camp Director, and Auxiliary Programs Directors
- Other responsibilities assigned by the Summer Camp Director, as needed

- Has experience and proficiency using Google Workspace and a willingness to learn the camp platform, UltraCamp
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail
- Experience with safety and crisis management
- Is committed to being a creative self-starter who brings wisdom, perspective, confidence, and excellent problem-solving skills to the position
- Demonstrates excellent command of a large group of people, children and adults alike, and comfortability and confidence speaking in front of them
- Possesses excellent oral and written communication skills; speaks professionally and thoughtfully to camp families at all times
- Demonstrates an ability to work collaboratively bringing a positive attitude and sense of humor even during stressful situations
- Ensures that program participants have a safe and positive camp experience
- Assists in managing crises and unanticipated events that affect the camp
- Maintains ongoing evaluation process of camp programs, staff, site, and facilities and makes recommendations for improvements
- Assures that the camp philosophy and practices align with our mission and school year values
- Is CPR/ First Aid Certified or completes training before summer camp begins
The Traditional Programs Director is a single summer position, with the option thereafter to renew on a year-by-year basis. The roles and responsibilities are also likely to evolve. The individual who assumes this role should have completed a minimum of 3 years in a lead teaching position and have at least 5 total years of teaching experience. They should have a desire for educational leadership.
Salary : $7,500 - $9,000
