Role Description

Under the guidance of the Principal, the High School English / Language Arts and Public Speaking Teacher will play a vital role in shaping the academic and character development of our scholars. This full-time, on-site position in Bettendorf, IA, involves leading engaging language arts instruction, designing innovative curriculum, and fostering communication skills through dynamic teaching methods. Collaborating closely with students, parents, colleagues, and school administration, the teacher will inspire a love of learning and ensure every scholar achieves academic success and personal growth in a supportive and vibrant classroom environment.

Essential Job Functions

  • Plan individually or cooperatively a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and the like to communicate these objectives to students.
  • Diagnose the learning strengths and weaknesses of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of District specialists as deemed appropriate.
  • Counsel with colleagues, students, and / or parents on a regular basis.
  • Assist administration in implementing all policies and / or rules governing student life and conduct and, for the classroom, develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedures and maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records and reports as required by law, District policy, and administrative regulation.
  • Adhere to the Code of Ethics of the Education Profession in Iowa and meet all school and District policy requirements.
  • Support school improvement initiatives by actively participating in school activities, services, and programs.

  • Position Qualifications

  • Required - Bachelor's degree in education with an endorsement in 5-12 English / Language Arts (Iowa endorsement 120)
  • Preferred - Master's degree in English or Communications or master's degree with at least 12 graduate hours in a combination of the qualifying fields that provide a foundation in the specific subject matter being taught (a minimum of 6 credits must be from English or Communications) : Creative Writing, Journalism, Literature, Speech, Technical Writing, English Education
  • Valid Iowa teaching license or willingness to obtain
