We are currently seeking a Manager, Nonprofit Accounting to join our New York team and support our growing portfolio of clients in the nonprofit sector.


Position Summary

The Manager, Nonprofit Accounting will serve as the day-to-day point person for the accounting and finance functions of assigned nonprofit clients. This individual will work closely with client leadership teams and our internal accounting professionals to ensure accurate, compliant, and timely financial operations. The role includes managing payables, receivables, payroll, reporting, audits, and grants, with a strong emphasis on relationship-building and delivering high-quality service.


Key Responsibilities

Accounting Operations

  • Serve as the lead contact for daily financial operations, in collaboration with our outsourced accounting team.
  • Process accounts payable and expense reimbursements.
  • Prepare and submit invoices, monitor payments, and review reporting.
  • Ensure accurate monthly journal entries with appropriate documentation.
  • Monitor daily bank activity and report findings to client leadership.
  • Oversee payroll coordination through Professional Employer Organizations (PEOs).


Client Collaboration & Compliance

  • Act as the financial liaison between clients and their internal departments, including support for member services and invoicing.
  • Ensure adherence to financial policies and regulatory compliance (federal, state, and internal).
  • Stay current with accounting standards and recommend policy updates as needed.
  • Maintain relationships with vendors, financial institutions, and stakeholders.


Budgeting, Grants, and Forecasting

  • Support the preparation of client budgets (annual, programmatic, and event-based).
  • Maintain monthly budget vs. actuals and update forecasts.
  • Oversee grant compliance, reporting, and fund allocations in line with donor requirements.


Financial Reporting & Audit

  • Assist with preparation of financial reports for boards, funders, and regulators.
  • Coordinate 1099s and ensure accurate documentation.
  • Lead annual audit and tax preparation processes in partnership with external accountants.
  • Recommend and help maintain accounting tools and software solutions.


Other Duties

  • Support special projects and initiatives as assigned by client leadership or PLUS management.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
  • Minimum 6 years of accounting experience, including 2 years in a leadership or managerial capacity.
  • Nonprofit accounting experience is required; grant accounting experience is strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency with financial tools such as Sage Intacct, BILL, and Excel.
  • CPA or CMA certification is preferred but not required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, especially when working with non-financial stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to travel for occasional meetings, audits, or conferences.
