GENERAL SUMMARY

This position is responsible to the design, development, testing, and evaluation of integrated systems manufacturing activities and provides recommendations to reduce cost and improve setup times, material flows and cycle times. This position analyzes manufacturing data or process information, monitors surroundings or materials, makes decisions and solves complex problems to improve manufacturing operations by reducing errors, waste and product defects.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Lean Manufacturing Processes

  • Provide expertise and technical support to assembly operations to solve manufacturing problems, such as fit-up, parts issue, process issue, or lay-out; updates production boards with daily efficiency and quality data
  • Develop physical layout of machines according to work orders; adjusts work procedures where necessary to meet production schedules
  • Set up models to simulate current lay-out of capital equipment, works with engineering, production supervisor and other manufacturing engineer to recommend the most efficient lay-out to improve space utilization; Upgrades building lay-outs records accordingly
  • Support Lean Engineering activities for all Manufacturing operations including Plymouth, MN and Pearl, MS plants.

Continuous Improvement

  • Develop, recommend, and implement measures to continuously improve existing manufacturing methods, product marketability, product reliability, flow, and equipment in order to eliminate waste, reduce costs, and increase efficiencies while meeting customer demand safely (Lean)
  • Review prototype designs with Engineering to recommend design changes to develop and reduce target costs while representing manufacturing / engineering on cross-functional teams. Operations representative on new product design teams addressing Design For Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA)
  • Give training presentations and mentor operations personnel in the application and implementation of Lean techniques
  • Design cell layouts to improve space utilization and efficiencies. Continuously improve line designs to increase efficiencies and match demand
  • Provide expertise and technical support to non-assembly processes to improve flow, reduce costs, eliminate waste, and develop / implement continuous improvements (Lean).
  • Quality Control

  • Establish, maintain and implement appropriate and timely documentation for manufacturing procedures such as Work Instructions, Metrics, Schedules, ECR / ECOs, Quality systems
  • Oversee Quality Department activities and personnel providing training, feedback, and coaching in all aspects of QA.

  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

    EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE

    Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university; and three to five years related experience and / or training; or equivalent combination of experience and training.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS

    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and boards of directors.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

    Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

    REASONING ABILITY

    Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.,) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

    Lean Certificate or Six Sigma Training

    Comments on the specific job duties that require the physical demands selected.

    Position works in the shop designing, developing and testing prototype equipment. Occasionally required visit customer job sites.

    A background and drug screening will be conducted for employment purposes.
