Plymouth State University Finance and Administration is seeking a Financial Data Specialist to join the team!
Job Duties/Responsibilities
- Analyzes, plans, and creates complex data sets and reports to inform institutional and unit financial strategy, budget development, and monitoring
- Designs, implements, and evaluates methods and procedures for collecting, organizing, interpreting, and classifying finance data for electronic input and ensures accurate and timely entry of financial data into relevant systems and platforms
- Produces reports as needed to support decision-making and monitor progress and provides accurate and timely data on demand
- Prepares standard financial reports with clarity and precision attuned to specific audiences and purposes including, but not limited to, available fund reporting, regulatory financial reporting, internal reporting, revenue and expense reporting, ongoing budget-to-actuals reporting, and ongoing unit expense reporting, as well as other ad hoc reporting requests
- Develops specifications for data capture and input and monitors input to ensure consistency, quality, and integrity of data
- Assists institutional leaders with ad hoc financial modeling and forecasting requests and initiatives
- Promptly identifies and investigates errors and discrepancies in financial data, producing solutions where applicable, and recommends policy and procedural improvements to reduce future irregularities
- Remains abreast of System and other regulatory agency policies, procedures, and systems and adheres to relevant guidelines for financial reporting
- Performs periodic needs assessment activities and, where applicable, develops alternate designs to resolve problems in input, storage, or retrieval of information, utilizing knowledge of electronic data processing principles, mathematics, and platform capabilities and liaising with IT as necessary
- Liaises with finance IT staff within the IT organization to identify and triage issues with automated accounting systems and recommend improvements
- Collaborates with other Finance staff within the assigned Finance Division to support strategic planning needs, meet reporting requirements, ensure compliance with System policies and other state and federal regulations, and monitor budgets
- Performs related duties, as assigned
- Associate’s degree or relevant certification required along with 3 or more years professional experience working in data analytics related to finance, accounting, or a related field. A Bachelor’s degree in Business or Accounting may be substituted for work experience.
- Ability to understand, interpret, and analyze financial data and documentation
- Proficiency in utilizing essential technology platforms (e.g., word processing, data entry, email, internet browsing, etc.)
- Ability to quickly learn navigation of automated finance and accounting systems
- Excellent mathematical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and accurately, both verbally and in writing
- Demonstrated administrative and organizations skills
- Ability to interpret and work with financial data, perform calculations, and draw conclusions where necessary
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to communication clearly, concisely, and accurately, both verbal and in writing
- Strong interpersonal skills and desire to work in a collaborative environment with System and institutional leaders, as well as colleagues in other financial affairs departments
- Openness to 360-degree feedback and desire to learn and grow continuously
- Bachelor’s degree or relevant certifications strongly preferred
- Prior knowledge of or experience with financial data, accounting, budgeting, and/or financial planning strongly preferred
- Experience operating or leading in a shared service setting preferred
- Experience working for a tax-exempt organization preferred
- Knowledge of and/or direct experience with Ellucian Banner systems preferred
