What are the responsibilities and job description for the Substance Use Disorder Assessment Coordinator position at PMHCC Inc.?
Position Summary:
The SUD Assessment Coordinator is responsible for reviewing submissions for treatment as required by State and County guidelines as well as clinical parameters, including risk assessment. The SUD Assessment Coordinator must utilize clinical knowledge of best practices and evidence-based treatments to ensure BHSI members receive timely access to quality, medically necessary behavioral health services.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Review request for treatment services and level of care in accordance with American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) placement criteria.
- Demonstrate an understanding of Evidence-Based Practices (EBPs) and the ability to connect members to appropriate evidence-based treatment. Awareness of social determinants, barriers to wellness, and other needs of members.
- Performs telephonic screenings as required.
- Possess knowledge about behavioral health care services, system partners, service continuum and established medical necessity criteria and apply that knowledge in all work activities.
- Possess knowledge about concurrent the effects of medical, psychiatric, and social challenges and its impact on individuals served.
- Possess knowledge of various medications.
- Assist members in identifying and addressing barriers to treatment.
- Create clinical documentation in BHSI’s electronic system consistent with agency and industry standards.
- Work collaboratively with team members including assisting with the training of newly hired employees as requested, covering work when peers are out of the office as assigned.
- Assist in resolving placement barriers for assessment sites facilitating treatment access. This includes ascertaining availability and appropriateness of care.
- Maintain current knowledge of SUD trends and vulnerable and priority populations and facilitating appropriate care.
- Attending provider meetings as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:
Master’s degree preferred in related field with 1 year of relevant work experience in SUD; or Master’s degree in unrelated field with 2 years of relevant work experience in SUD. Bachelor’s degree required in related field with 2 years of relevant work experience in SUD; or Bachelor’s degree in unrelated field and 3 years of relevant work experience in SUD. Preference given to experience in the field of Managed Care, Public Health, or any of the behavioral health fields-based care and/or supervisory experience. This may include but not be limited to, assessing, screening, referral, counseling, therapist, utilization management.
Essential Functions:
Work requires prolonged use of the keyboard, calculator and desk work. Ability to physically perform the duties and to work in the environmental conditions required such as maneuvering in office space, reaching file cabinets, operating fax and copier machines when necessary.
Physical Demands:
Ability to sit for up to two (2) hours looking at a computer monitor and using a keyboard and mouse typing or performing data entry function. Ability to stand for at least one (1) hour filing.
