Position Summary:
The SUD Management Assistant Team is responsible for responding to incoming calls from individuals, and, their families, in and out of network providers and other outside sources regarding behavioral health services. The SUD Management Assistant checks insurance eligibility, makes referrals for outpatient appointments, assists in grievances and complaints process, participates in community relations events, attends ongoing framings, and actively participates in ongoing meetings and projects involving DBH/CBH initiatives. The SUD Management Assistant advocates for BHSI members and assist them in negotiating the behavioral health and drug and alcohol systems.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Screen and complete intake information for individuals seeking BHSI services.
- Verity client’s eligibility conferring with clinicians as needed.
- Make referrals to outpatient treatment and other supportive services as clinically appropriate.
- Assist clinical operations with the processing of documentation including, but not limited to client charts, documentation of treatment services, eligibility, data entry, and other required paperwork.
- Create clinical documentation in BHSI’s electronic system consistent with agency and industry standards.
- Assist clinical operations in acting as contact for providers to assist with resolving provider issues related to approvals, authorizations, navigating DDAP electronic systems, etc.
- Work collaboratively with team members including assisting with the training of newly hired employees as requested, covering work when peers are out of the office as assigned.
- Provide telephone callers assistance in navigating through behavioral health and drug and alcohol systems of care.
- With clinical guidance, refer members to appropriate levels of care and act as a liaison between members and providers and clinicians.
- Provide coverage of receptionist duties as necessary.
Skills Required:
- Excellent written, verbal, and spelling skills. Knowledge of substance use and mental health disorders, and concurrent medications.
- Ability to handle crisis situations.
- Address members with serious mental health including suicidal situations if needed.
- Research network opportunities and out of network resources for members as needed.
- Advocate for members when needed; be the member’s “voice”.
- Maintain detailed documentation of all interactions with members.
- Cross collaboration with other DBH, IDS and CBH departments.
- Always represent DBHIDS professionally.
- Compliant with H IPAA and Confidentiality regulations
Education and Experience:
Associate degree in a related field with 1 year of relevant work experience in SUD or Associate degree with 3 years of relevant work experience in SUD; high school diploma with 5 years of relevant work experience in SUD. Preference given to experience in the field of Managed Care, Public Health, or any of the behavioral health fields-based care. This may include but not be limited to intake, screening, and referrals to treatment.
Essential Functions: Work requires prolonged use of the keyboard, calculator, and desk work.
