Job Summary
We are seeking a Peer Support Specialist to provide non-clinical, recovery-oriented support to individuals in our program. This role involves using lived experience and specialized training to assist residents in their recovery journey by offering emotional support, mentorship, and advocacy. The Peer Support Specialist plays a crucial role in fostering a positive, inclusive, and empowering environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide peer-based support through shared lived experience, encouraging hope and motivation in the recovery process.
- Assist residents in developing individualized recovery goals, navigating challenges, and building resilience.
- Facilitate one-on-one and group support sessions to address challenges, celebrate successes, and promote accountability.
- Support residents in connecting with community resources, employment opportunities, and support groups (AA/NA, SMART Recovery, etc.).
- Advocate for the rights and needs of residents within the recovery program and broader community.
- Promote healthy coping skills and relapse prevention strategies, reinforcing positive behavioral changes.
- Assist residents in developing life skills, including financial literacy, time management, and relationship building.
- Model ethical and professional behavior in all interactions while maintaining appropriate boundaries and confidentiality.
- Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and supervision meetings to enhance skills and collaboration.
- Collaborate with case managers, clinicians, and other staff to provide comprehensive support to residents.
Qualifications
- Must be a Certified Peer Recovery Supporter (PRS) in Ohio in good standing
- Must have personal lived experience with substance use disorder and sustained recovery for at least two years.
- Strong understanding of peer recovery principles, trauma-informed care, and harm reduction approaches.
- Excellent communication, active listening, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Familiarity with community recovery resources, including housing, employment, and social services.
- Strong commitment to maintaining professional and ethical standards in accordance with Ohio's Peer Support guidelines.
- Must be willing to undergo a background check and drug screening in compliance with PNP Recovery’s policies.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a recovery home, sober living environment, or behavioral health setting.
- Additional training in motivational interviewing, de-escalation techniques, and crisis intervention.
- Experience facilitating support groups or educational workshops.
Work Environment & Schedule
- The position requires a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends. * Work will be conducted in-person at PNP Recovery homes and community settings.
Job Types: Full-time, Contract
Pay: $17.00 - $19.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
