Pocatello Valley Montessori School is seeking a Upper Elementary Teacher to join our team for the 2025-2026 school year. The model candidate will be someone who is nurturing, compassionate, and dedicated to upholding the Montessori Philosophy. Candidates must be confident, friendly and organized and able to collaborate effectively with colleagues and parents. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required. Candidates must have or be willing to obtain their Montessori Elementary Credential.

Essential Functions for Teaching:

The essential duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Being present daily excluding approved and appropriate time off.
  • Manage a classroom of children and an assistant teacher
  • Plan and implement stimulating and developmentally appropriate daily curriculum that honors the Montessori philosophy and the individuality of each child in the classroom.
  • Maintain a beautifully prepared, organized, clean, safe and stimulating environment for the children
  • Teach assisting staff and children cleanliness and responsibility, modeling appropriate and professional behavior at all times
  • Prepare and submit internal and external reports and documents in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations, and PVMS standard operating procedures. This includes but is not limited to: record keeping, assessments, developmental checklists, Parent Conference forms, injury/accident reports, and medication logs
  • Communicate with parents on a regular basis on subjects relevant to their children and their classroom. This that includes but is not limited to classroom happenings, school events, parent education, and individual child development, classroom newsletters, record keeping, conference forms, observation reports, checklists, emails, Instagram posts, in-person meetings, conferences, and/or phone conversations
  • Build respectful, collaborative relationships with parents and staff
  • Collaborate with other teachers and administration regarding school policies and procedures
  • Attend and use all scheduled planning and prep time to work with assistant teachers in completing lesson planning and documentation.
  • Attend and participate in classroom team meetings
  • Attend and participate in all in-service days
  • Attend and participate in all whole school meetings
  • Attend and participate in all PVMS Community and Fundraising Events, including but not limited to Student Performances, Back-to-School Night, and Parent Education Meetings
  • Must obtain 12 credits of continuing education in ECE throughout the school year
  • Be committed to both PVMS and the Montessori philosophy
  • Be willing and able to support all of the environments at PVMS
  • Be a dedicated model for lifelong learning
  • Must be able to multi-task throughout the day and delegate duties to assisting staff

Essential Functions for Classroom Management:

  • Maintain continued commitment to others
  • Keep ongoing records of classroom meetings and be ready to share these while maintaining confidentiality
  • Be able and willing to coach, guide, and train assisting staff in areas where growth may be necessary
  • Have a clear understanding of the Montessori Curriculum and Prepared Montessori Environment and be willing to share duties and lessons with assisting teachers
  • Have conversations and do observations of the assisting teachers to determine areas of growth, report this back to the Executive Director
  • Maintain a supportive and collaborative work environment with other PVMS staff and administration
  • Be open to having observers on a regular basis in your environment
  • Have knowledge of communication styles and be willing to adjust your style to the audience
  • Be a dedicated model for lifelong learning
  • Bring positivity and a forward-thinking mindset to the work environment
  • Be willing to accept coaching and guidance from peers and supervisors in the position to do so.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands, reach with hands and arms, stop, kneel, crouch, sit on the floor, crawl. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Employees must be able to perform the essential functions of outdoor education in all-weather PVMS deemed acceptable for children to be outside in.

Qualifications, Education, and Experience:

  • Bachelors Degree
  • Montessori Elementary Certified or Willingness to Obtain and have Montessori experience
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience working with 6 to 12 year old children
  • Certified in CPR, and First Aid
  • Classroom management experience a plus
  • Willing to continue education beyond current accolades
  • Ability to pass a background check and obtain Pocatello Childcare License
  • Willing to provide references upon request

Job Types: Full-time, Contract

Pay: $36,000.00 - $42,000.00 per year
