Description
The Creative Writing Program at Stony Brook seeks a full-time lecturer who will split their time between teaching courses and co-directing BookEnds, a one-year post-graduate program for advanced novel manuscripts founded by Meg Wolitzer and Susan Scarf Merrell, the current co-directors. Co-directors, working with an Associate Director, handle recruitment, applications, admissions, student advising, mentorship assignments, and alumni relations.
As teaching faculty, the other half of this position carries a 2/1 load of mostly undergraduate creative writing courses, with occasional thesis advising of BFA or MFA students. Undergraduate courses are held at Stony Brook; graduate courses are held in either Southampton or Manhattan. Creative Writing is part of the Lichtenstein Center, which supports the creation of original work primarily in creative writing, film, and television writing.
Candidates should have a minimum of one published novel from a nationally respected press, with additional evidence of literary merit, such as reviews, prize nominations, or notable-book mentions. The successful candidate will also have credible evidence of editorial skills, such as experience working with authors at a publishing house or as a literary agent.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must have published a novel of literary merit from a respected press. Hold an M.F.A. (foreign equivalent or higher) in Creative Writing or the equivalent, and present evidence of successful teaching and editorial skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in publishing. Evidence of a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, in the classroom and with colleagues.
