Job Summary

This position is responsible for working at the school campus to provide assessment, intervention, case management, and counseling services to students and their families by performing the following duties.

Job Duties

  • Provides various support services for students and / or families.
  • Utilizes a culturally responsive trauma-informed approach in supporting students and families.
  • Provides individual skills focusing on healthy coping strategies and strengths-building.
  • Enhances school climate and broadly promotes behavioral health, wellness, and school success for students, families, and staff by conducting ongoing needs assessments, building relationships, and systematically seeking to reduce stigma.
  • Conducts assessments of all new students and works with students who opt-in to follow up further to set goals and connect them to resources as desired.
  • Completes required client-related paperwork, including federal and state-mandated forms and mental health documentation (a medical necessity for insurance, diagnostic summary, treatment plan, session notes, and program reports).
  • Conducts training and builds school and community support to deliver effective school-based mental health services to students and their families through Culturally Responsive Trauma-Informed Care.
  • Collaborates with school staff, caregivers, and other involved providers.
  • Delivers, evaluates, and continuously improves interventions using standardized measures and outcomes.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with youth and families of color.
  • Keeps accurate, confidential record of case notes documenting sessions and adheres to high professional and ethical standards.
  • Builds school and community support for delivering mental health services to students and / or families.
  • Seeks opportunities for further training in crisis intervention, case management, record-keeping, solution-focused brief therapy, etc.
  • Meets periodically with staff to obtain feedback for case management while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of this community's traditions, values, and customs when providing care.
  • Applies understanding of cultural / racial / ethnic factors, including systemic advantage or disadvantage, generational trauma, and any factors related to non-dominant culture affecting mental health when working with the community.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Experience / Education

A bachelor’s degree in social work or a related field is required for this role. In addition to the education requirement, this position requires three years of related experience. This position requires advanced knowledge, skill, ability, and experience working with the Black / African American community including an understanding of the traditions, values, and customs of this community. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be used to satisfy these requirements.
