Job Summary

Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Institute (HPHCI) is currently seeking a highly motivated, action-oriented, and resourceful Senior Project Director to join the Division of Therapeutics Research and Infectious Disease Epidemiology (TIDE). TIDE sits within the Department of Population Medicine (www.populationmedicine.org), leading large, complex, multi-institutional research initiatives that support major national public health activities. Our mission is to improve health care delivery and population health through research and education, in partnership with health plans, delivery systems, and public health agencies. The Senior Project Director reports into TIDE’s Project Management Office (PMO), a Center of Excellence, that offers robust career pathing, training, support, and mentorship. They will provide direction of complex, multi-site projects, in several of TIDE’s research portfolios, ensuring each project’s overall integrity, coherence, and ultimate success. This position requires excellent communication skills for close collaboration with internal and external investigators, funders, and project managers and is an ideal match for a candidate with pharmaceutical or CRO industry experience.

Key Responsibilities/Duties – What You Will Be Doing

  • Creates or oversees a TIDE-wide initiative/work group/committee and provides support and training to TIDE colleagues (e.g., CMS).
  • Oversees or directly manages all phases of the project management lifecycle, as related to cost, schedule, quality and technical performance, while ensuring compliance with the established Project Management methodologies.
  • Oversees and coordinates the preparation of complex, multi-site proposals and grants, including scopes of work, operating budgets and financial terms/conditions for programs/projects under his/her responsibility.
  • Acts as the primary contact for project activities, leading review sessions with funders and stakeholders to discuss cost, schedule, quality and technical performance. Develops and maintains a highly collaborative working relationship with the different stakeholders and partners and represent the project team externally, including on behalf of the Principal Investigator. Identifies and resolves issues and/or inter-dependencies that threaten the delivery dates or outcome of the project, as they relate to other parallel efforts.
  • Provides regular feedback to Senior Leadership regarding appropriateness of resource allocations across projects; offers solutions as appropriate. Ensures each project team has the necessary information and documentation to support timely, accurate status reporting and communications to key stakeholders, funders, and partners. Ensures all project documentation and repositories are maintained up to date and are reflective of current status.
  • Advises PMO colleagues and other study staff on resolving project challenges.

Qualifications – What You Need To Perform The Job

  • Bachelor's degree plus 12 or more years of relevant experience managing large, complex, multi-site projects and cross-functional initiatives, using standard PM methodologies in a health care or academic environment. A Master’s degree in management, public health or related field is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and success applying project management principles to all phases of the project cycle, under limited supervision. Sound knowledge of scientific research methods.
  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills; able to represent the project team and leadership externally, on a regular basis. Expert skills managing relationships with vendors, external partners, key stakeholders, subcontractors, and third party outsources.
  • Able to lead and motivate teams effectively and through influence. Superior problem solving and change management skills.
  • Experience managing large, complex budgets. Expert risk management knowledge and understanding.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Project, Excel, Power Point, Word, Visio, and other desktop tools or project management software.
