GENERAL OVERVIEW |
|
To fulfill the requirements necessary in the daily operation of a school building in an efficient and effective manner as assigned by the principal.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES Maintenance:
· Make minor repairs to pupils' and teachers' lockers, desks, and teachers' desks. · Keep all fire extinguishers securely in place and periodically check same for validness. · Maintain towel racks, soap dispensers, and tissue racks. If any of the above are damaged or lost, replacement shall be made by the maintenance department. · Assist maintenance personnel (when time permits) in repairs to heating and plumbing equipment. · Make minor repairs to playground equipment. · Repair or replace pencil sharpeners. · Observer leak problems and report to principal and maintenance department. · Report any major inadequacies or malfunctioning of physical properties to principal and maintenance.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS |
|
High School Diploma or GED; Experience with maintenance and custodial work preferred. |

ABILITIES AND SKILLS 1. Have knowledge of the following: · The principles of heating, ventilating, sanitation, and care of school buildings. Identifies the best tools, materials, cleaning agents, and methods to use in various phases of custodial work. Identifies and utilizes the correct use of mechanical equipment of school buildings. · Have skill in using proper tools, materials, cleaning agents, and methods of procedure for the different kinds of custodial jobs under various conditions. · Possess attitudes that will lead to serious, wholehearted, and unselfish attention to the duties of custodial service and those which make for harmonious cooperation with pupils and with the administrative, educational, and custodial forces. · Have ideas of what constitutes good custodial service and of the importance of the service to both the educational work of the school and the protection of the school property.

Work Environment: The Custodian will work in an environment adhering to the School Board energy policy. Workday consist of regular school hours. Then length of the workday varies as the result of evening activities or emergencies. In addition, job responsibilities may require work on weekends or holidays and attendance at meetings. Communication Skills: The Custodian must be able to effectively communicate in English both orally and in writing. Must have ability to accurately give and receive information via telecommunication system and must be able to communicate successfully with students, teachers, parents, school personnel, and the community. Equipment Used: The Custodian should be able to use a telephone, audio-visual equipment, computer, copy machine, laminator, calculator, and other appropriate machines and equipment relative to office management. Physical and Mental Involvement: Strength: Exert force of 20-50 lbs. occasionally, 10-25 lbs. frequently, or up to 10 lbs. constantly. Other Physical Demands: Stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, fingering, talking, hearing, near acuity (Under 20 inches). Environmental Conditions: Noise Intensity Level - Moderate The Custodian must be able to perform these physical activities: standing, walking, reaching bending, and lifting 40 to 50 pounds (sometimes required). The Custodian must be able to plan and implement appropriate custodial projects. Must be able to understand and interpret written and verbal instructions. Must keep accurate, up-to date records. Must be able to comply with federal, state and parish regulations. Human Relations: The Custodian must be able to work cooperatively with district personnel and the community. Must be able to respond appropriately to supervision and accept commendations and recommendations. Must demonstrate sensitivity/understanding in interpersonal relations with persons of diverse cultures/backgrounds. |
