The Police Activities League (PAL) of Massena has been serving the youth of our community since 2013, providing a safe, engaging space with results-driven programs and professional guidance. We are seeking an Assistant Director to help lead our after-school programs and operations.
Position Summary
The Assistant Director will oversee the daily operations of PAL under the guidance of the Executive Director, ensuring program objectives are met and staff is effectively supervised. This role involves direct engagement with youth, collaboration with schools, parents, and community partners, and the development of age-appropriate curriculum for after-school programming.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and supervise the After-School Program to ensure a safe, enriching environment.
- Plan, organize, and support special events in collaboration with the Director.
- Collect, review, and submit program, membership, and staff reports as required.
- Maintain relationships with schools, community partners, and agencies to enhance program success.
- Engage parents through regular communication and involvement activities.
- Assist with grant writing, reporting, and administration to support funding opportunities.
- Work with the Director and Board of Directors on fundraising initiatives and donor engagement.
- Participate in hiring, training, and supervising program and support staff.
- Conduct program evaluations and staff development to maintain high-quality service delivery.
- Oversee administrative functions, including registration, fee collection, attendance tracking, and policy updates.
- Ensure all incident reports (accidents, injuries, altercations, etc.) are documented and submitted promptly.
- Represent PAL at meetings and community events in the Director’s absence.
- Support Prevention Coordinators in lesson planning and effective program execution.
Qualifications & Skills
- Passion for PAL’s mission and a belief in youth empowerment through guidance and mentorship.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred in Administration, Recreation, Psychology, Sociology, Education, Counseling, or a related field.
- Minimum of three years of experience in a nonprofit, youth services, or social services setting in an administrative or managerial role.
- Strong understanding of conflict resolution, mediation, and mentoring strategies.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
- Knowledge of professional office protocols, including confidentiality and record-keeping.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other administrative software.
- Must hold a valid driver’s license.
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain within six months of employment).

- Job Type: Full-time, Non-Exempt
- Salary Range: $40,000 - $42,000 (based on experience)
- Benefits: 2 weeks PTO
- Reports To: Executive Director
