APD Comprehensive Training Manager

Position Summary

Manage and oversee a curriculum program, assigned curriculum designers tasked with creating, drafting, and maintaining associated trainings for cadet and sworn officers within the Comprehensive Training Unit (CTU) of the Albuquerque Police Department. Direct and oversee design standards and performance measures for CTU personnel. Perform a variety of administrative, professional, and technical tasks in support of the assigned area of responsibility.

This is an unclassified at-will position.

Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements

Education and experience directly related to the minimum requirements below may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in business management, instructional design and technology, organizational development, or operations management; and

Two (2) years of project management experience or curriculum program development experience; and

To include four (4) years of supervisory experience.

Additional Requirements:
Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License, or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire.

Preferred Knowledge

• Principles and practices of Adult Learning Theory
• Principles and practices of project management
• Principles of supervision, training and performance evaluations
• Law enforcement or military training philosophies and systems
• Methods and techniques of instruction, training, and development, including e-learning platforms and blended learning models
• Principles and procedures of record keeping, report preparation and modern office procedures, methods, and equipment
• Operational characteristics, services and activities of an administrative program
• Pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes and regulations

Preferred Skills & Abilities

• Resolve conflicts, manage team dynamics, and ensure accountability within a team setting
• Oversee and develop curriculum for law enforcement personnel
• Collaborate with faculty, subject matter experts, and command staff on training content
• Design, lead and facilitate classroom, web-based and blended training sessions and special programs
• Interpret, explain and present material of a sensitive nature
• Use a variety of computer software including Microsoft Office, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Share Point, Microsoft PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, and e-learning software and programs
• Develop and utilize multimedia applications to deliver training programs
• Communicate clearly and concisely
• Perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
