MAJOR FUNCTIONS
Dispatching of Utilities Service Technicians and responding to radio transmissions. Coordinating and routing service orders for daily routine workload. Clerical office work involving varied and independent work assignments, including routine work in operating a telephone switchboard.
ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES
Maintains a line of communication between utilities administration and service personnel by radio and phone contact.
Keeps daily log of time, date, and call number of all transmissions and responses of service personnel.
Performs clerical and other record-keeping duties using computers, remote computer terminals, calculators, copy machines and other general office equipment.
Files documents, forms and other paperwork.
Prepares paperwork according to established practices and procedures.
Gathers, assembles and places information in format utilized within office operations or report form requirements.
Receives reports for verifying, assigning, and correction of information.
Responsible for dealing with the public via telephone, guiding them according to established procedures, providing information and/or responding to inquiries as directed or trained by supervisor(s).
Takes messages and ensures that inquiry message is received by appropriate person.
Performs related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Knowledge of the geographical area of Polk County and major city locations.
Ability to learn and route locations as assigned.
Ability to read maps.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to learn assigned clerical tasks of office and adhere to prescribed routines. Knowledge of English, spelling, and arithmetic.
Ability to speak clearly and distinctly in a manner than can be understood.
Ability to meet and deal courteously and effectively with employees and the public.
Ability to use computers and remote computer terminals, and other office equipment of the assigned work unit.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Graduate of an accredited high school or possess an acceptable equivalency diploma and have a minimum of one (1) year clerical work experience. Must also have a minimum of one (1) year radio transmission and/or dispatching experience.
Must be able to type a minimum of 20 CWPM, with no more than 5 errors and utilize all features afforded by word processing software and other required software and computers or CRT equipment utilized by the assigned work unit.
Must have a valid driver's license and be able to secure a valid Florida driver's license at the time of employment within this classification.
A comparable amount of related training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications apart from the education requirements.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
Must have an active telephone number at the time of employment as employee is subject to call in emergencies.
This position shall be required to report for work as directed when a declaration of emergency has been declared in Polk County.
