School Counselor

Reports to: Principal
Supervises: N/A
Job Summary: Conduct counseling services to assist students in identifying and meeting their needs in educational, vocational, and personal-social aspects of their lives. Provide consultation and support services for parents, teachers, administrators, district-level personnel, community resources, and students. Facilitate a guidance program, which involves counseling, advising, consulting, coordinating, professional development and program planning.
Essential Functions:
- Provide all counseling services, group and individual, to grades as assigned.

- Advise students concerning:
- Dual enrollment
- Early graduation
- College applications
- Transcript requests
- Collaborate with teachers, parents and outside agencies.
- Make appropriate referrals to parents, Mental Health Services, physicians, Social
Services, and/or other outside resources as needed.
- Assist with coordination of:
- Testing Program
- Scholarship and Leadership Programs
- Peer and volunteer tutoring
- Financial Aid Night
- Registration for High School
- Interpret and help teachers use standardized test scores.
- Assist students with schedules and schedule changes.
- Serve as 504 Coordinator for school.
- Attend Care Team meetings for grade assigned.
Other Functions:
1. Other duties as assigned by the principal.
Education, Experience, and Skills Required:
- Have or eligible for NC licensure in School Counseling.
- High School teaching experience preferred.
- Must possess strong written and oral communication skills.
Terms of Employment: 10 Months – Teacher Salary Scale
Evaluation:
Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board of Education policy, North Carolina statutes, and goals established by the principal.
