What are the responsibilities and job description for the Seasonal - Parks and Trails Laborer position at Polk County (WI)?
Summary: This is a seasonal position with employment during the summer months. Under the direct supervision of the work unit supervisor, the seasonal parks and trails laborer performs essential duties related to the maintenance and operation of the County’s parks, trails, buildings, and grounds. This is a 40 hour per week position.The following are examples of duties that may be performed. Duties may vary based on operational needs of the work unit.
•Operate equipment such as trucks, mowers, trimmers, tractors and attachments, and related grounds maintenance equipment.
•Equipment maintenance such as greasing, cleaning, and sharpening blades as well as minor repairs to equipment as needed.
•Park maintenance activities which may include maintenance and repair of signs or fences, restroom cleaning and stocking, cleaning of parks and buildings property, litter pick up, and maintenance of playground equipment.
•Grounds maintenance such as mowing, trimming, raking, watering and planting of landscape plants.
•Trail repair and maintenance including brushing, grading, mowing and other related activities.
•Facility maintenance such as minor carpentry, masonry work, plumbing, and painting.
•Policing of parks and trails, enforcement of the County Parks ordinance, and conducting periodic trail inspections.
•Perform preventative maintenance in other areas as directed.
•Complete necessary paperwork related to work activities.
•Participate as a team member to improve efficiency and cooperatively solve problems.

Education/Experience: Must possess a High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and the working knowledge and skills to properly and safely operate motorized equipment. Training/experience or schooling in equipment operation, maintenance or related field preferred. Experience preferred in the operation of power grounds care equipment (mowers, trimmers, tractors and attachments) as well as knowledge of cleaning methods, materials and equipment.
