What are the responsibilities and job description for the BUILDING TECHNICIAN position at Polk County?
- Vacuums, spot cleans, and shampoos carpeting; mixes proper solutions for shampooing.
- Sweeps, mops, scrubs, strips, seals, and polishes floors; operates power cleaning equipment such as buffing machines; maintains cleaning equipment as required.
- Cleans and dusts furniture, windows, counters, shelving, woodwork, walls, and ceilings; cleans light fixtures and replaces light bulbs; uses a ladder as required.
- Cleans and disinfects lavatories, toilets, and bath facilities; cleans and polishes bathroom fixtures; replenishes disposable supplies such as toilet paper, towels, and soap.
- Picks up trash and recycle around County buildings, offices, and hallways; reports needed repairs.
- Replenishes, maintains, and requisitions cleaning supplies; moves furniture, supplies, and miscellaneous equipment; delivers supplies to various areas; maintains inventory of custodial supplies.
- May make safety checks by observing and/or checking locked doors, temperature readings for heating/air conditioning, and on/off switches for equipment; locks/unlocks doors as required.
- Performs duties in the immediate exterior of assigned building, such as sweeping sidewalks, snow and ice removal at entrances and sidewalks, cleaning debris from grounds and window wells, and cleaning exterior windows; performs grounds clean up as required.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of cleaning methods and procedures.
- Knowledge of cleaning materials, such as detergents, disinfectants, polishes, and finishes.
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and/or written directions.
- Ability to lift objects weighing up to 80 pounds.
- Ability to move furniture and equipment weighing up to 100 pounds utilizing dollies.
- Ability to climb a ladder.
- Ability to walk for extended periods of time.
- Ability to stoop, bend, twist, squat, kneel, push, pull, and reach.
- Ability to safely operate and properly care for power cleaning equipment such as floor scrubbers and buffing machines.
- Ability to safely operate a forklift to move supplies and materials.
- Ability to use snow shovels, rakes, brooms, and mops.
- Ability to safely use chemical cleaning agents.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other County employees and the general public.
- Any combination of training and experience that will have provided the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Special Requirements:
- Candidate must pass a post-employment offer physical examination and physical capacity testing to ensure candidate meets the essential physical requirements of the position.
- Certification in the operation of forklifts is required within six months of employment.
- A drug screen is required prior to final offer of employment.
- A criminal background check is required.
- A valid State of Iowa driver’s license is required.
