What are the responsibilities and job description for the PARK OFFICER (Certified ILEA only) position at Polk County?
Under general supervision, assigned to the Park Advocacy Unit, assigned and scheduled to patrol the areas managed by the Polk County Conservation, enforcing state, county & local laws.
1. Patrols park areas enforcing laws/regulations pertaining to the operation of county parks; issues summons, and may arrest persons violating state, federal, or local laws/regulations; may counsel, advise, or detain individuals whose actions endanger persons/property; cooperates/coordinates with local law enforcement agency activities; keeps the Supervisor apprised of activities.
2. While on patrol, they will monitor/evaluate facilities/premises to ensure they are safe/well maintained. With reports of unsafe conditions reported to the Shift Supervisor.
3. Collects fees from users of park facilities.
4. Provides for the safety of visitors, including the administering of first aid in emergencies.
5. Write detailed and accurate reports to document all on duty activities. Submit all required reports at the end of the shift.
6. Performs related duties as may be required.
· Knowledge of state, federal, and local laws/regulations pertaining to park operations/ natural resources.
· Ability to enforce park rules/regulations.
· Ability to inspect buildings, premises, and other facilities to determine security/ safety concerns.
· Ability to obtain and maintain certification in First Aid and CPR.
· Ability to tactfully enforce park rules/regulations.
· Ability to maintain accurate records/prepare reports.
· Ability to exercise good judgment in evaluating situations/making decisions.
· Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
· Ability to establish/maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, representatives of other organizations, volunteers, and the general public.
· Ability to resolve disputes/conflicts with use of diplomacy, tact, and persuasion.
· Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
· Ability to obtain/maintain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Iowa.· High School graduate or equivalent, and
· Any equivalent combination of training and experience which will have provided the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Special Requirement
· Must be currently certified through the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy
· A criminal background check is required.
· Pre-employment physical, physical capacity test, including drug testing and MMPI is required.Salary : $29 - $30
