Summary:
Responsible for managing the Pro-Shop retail merchandise, monthly benchmark accounting, and achieving annual sales targets. Meets the individual requirements of the membership by offering an extensive array of products, programs, and supporting services. Establishes the principles and standards for customer service and quality control for the sales team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Determines direction of soft goods and hard goods retail sales.
- Manages and maintains a written buying plan according to established yearly sales plan.
- Meets with sales representatives to place all orders related to soft goods retail sales buying plan.
- Sets up, maintains & troubleshoots Point of Sale System, as necessary.
- Controls inventory for all hard and soft goods and organizes & supervises physical inventories.
- Processes month-end reports for Directors of Golf Operations and Accounting department.
- Generates purchase orders for all incoming invoices.
- Receives stock merchandise, special orders into inventory and negative receive merchandise when credits come in and maintains a daily receiving log.
- Resolves member and employee issues when they arise.
- Supervises the retail merchandise and hard goods staff and to include hiring, terminating, disciplining, counseling, training and planning, assigning and directing work.
- Processes all invoices for payment, submits to accounting and records invoices into Excel spreadsheet.
- Manages discount programs with vendors.
- Monitors weekly financials from accounting office.
- Places orders and all follows up with Hole-N-Ones.
- Tracks the Cost of Sale on daily basis.
- Assists Golf Department with all special events.
- Communicates with members, co-workers, management, and the general public in a courteous and professional manner.
- Conforms with and abides by all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions.
- Exhibits and maintains a professional demeanor to reflect a positive image of The Polo Club.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Golf Operations.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of golf and golf related terminology and merchandise.
- Requires knowledge of inventory management and controls.
- Must have knowledge of statistical information to insure proper stock mix and turnover.
- Requires excellent customer service skills.
- Must be able to supervise and motivate staff members.
- Requires good mathematical skills.
- Ability to analyze data and prepare reports.
- Club experience preferred.
- Ability to verbally communicate well in English and in writing.
- Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions in English.
- Ability to interact professionally and maintain effective working relationships with management, co-workers and members.
- Must be able to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Manages merchandising staff. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the retail merchandise staff. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving issues.

Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor or Associate degree from a four- or two-year college or university, program specific certificate; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills:
Ability to communicate well in English. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, members, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite; Inventory software; Internet and Order processing systems. Extensive knowledge of computer point of sale and budgeting system is required. Knowledge of Golf Tee Time system preferred.
