Summary:

Manages all aspects of maintenance on an 18-hole golf course, supervision of staff, application, scheduling, planning, and directing work. Responds to emergencies accordingly. Communicates with Director of Golf Course Maintenance of emergencies, accidents, occurrences, safety initiatives, and course conditions out of the ordinary.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Plans and schedules all maintenance processes and procedures.
• Trains, instructs, and directs maintenance personnel.
• Promotes, coaches, and annually evaluates maintenance personnel.
• Manages safety in all phases of maintenance from the shop to course.
• Manages the safe operation, storage, and effective use of all equipment.
• Manages the proper use, storage, and preservation of all associated materials, supplies, and assigned equipment.
• Runs irrigation systems including daily setup and maintenance.
• Manages fertilizer and pesticide applications including record keeping.
• Order supplies as necessary with the approval of Director of Golf Course Maintenance.
• Maintain accurate records of all processes.

• Communicates with members, co-workers, management, vendors, and the public in a courteous and professional manner.
• Conforms with and abides by all regulations, policies, work procedures, and instructions.
• Exhibits and keeps a professional demeanor to reflect a positive image of The Polo Club.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Golf Course Maintenance.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Requires knowledge of agronomy and related practices for Golf Courses.
• Must have strong supervisory and leadership skills.
• Requires knowledge of construction, establishment, and maintenance of a golf course.
• Requires knowledge of landscape construction and materials.
• Must have good customer relations skills.
• Requires knowledge of the game of golf.
• Ability to analyze, interpret data, and prepare reports.
• Previous club experience preferred.

• Ability to communicate well verbally and in writing.
• Ability to understand and conduct verbal and written instructions.
• Ability to interact professionally and maintain effective working relationships with members, superiors, and co-workers.
• Must be able to multi-task and work in a challenging environment.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Manages subordinate supervisors who supervise employees in the Golf Course Maintenance department. Oversees the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Fulfills supervisory responsibilities following the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, training employees, planning, assigning, directing work, appraising performance, rewarding, disciplining, addressing complaints, and resolving problems with all employees.

Education and/or Experience

Associate’s degree (A.A.) or higher in Agronomy or Horticulture plus four or more years of related experience and/or equivalent combination of related education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations. Ability to draft reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information, respond to questions, common inquiries, complaints from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage. As well as drawing and interpreting bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with abstract and concrete variables.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office, Outlook, Word, and Excel. Operate Job Board program, and Irrigation System software.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Acquire State of Florida Commercial Applicator license in Ornamental and Turf within six months of employment.

Florida Best Management Practices (BMP) or acquire within six months of employment.

GCSAA and FGCSA membership. The Polo Club will pay or reimburse your annual dues.

Valid Florida driver’s license and a good driving record.

Must have a keen eye to inspect the course and be physically able to do manual labor (lift a 50 lb. bag of fertilizer and use a shovel or similar tools).
