What are the responsibilities and job description for the Full Time Animal Caretaker position at Poplar Spring Animal Sanctuary?
Poplar Spring Animal Sanctuary is a 430 acre non-profit refuge located in Poolesville, MD, which provides a permanent home for over 250 rescued horses, cows, pigs, goats, sheep, chickens and turkeys. The open animal caretaker position is in our Goat and Sheep and Chicken and Turkey area. Responsibilities include feeding and watering animals, medicating animals with oral and injectable medications, topically treating any scrapes or wounds, cleaning barns, cleaning pastures and food and water bowls, restocking feed, and caring for the animals. The hours of the job are 8 am to 4 pm Monday through Friday.
Qualifications for the position are:
Prior animal caretaker experience at a sanctuary preferred, but not mandatory
Excellent animal behavior observation skills
Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
Able to perform strenuous physical labor and lifting (applicant should be in good physical condition with no back problems, and must be able to lift 50 lb. feed bags and bales of hay.
Able to work well with a variety of people
Very reliable, dependable and trustworthy (must have your own car that is reliable)
Passionate about animal welfare/rights and veganism
Most importantly - a genuine desire to give a good quality of life to the rescued animals
Hours - Monday thru Friday - 8 am - 4 pm Benefits include Paid time off, Paid holidays, fully paid Health care including Dental and vision - provided after 90 days.
