Introduction
The position of Music Director at Poplar Tent Presbyterian Church is responsible for the development and promotion of the music program of the church. It is a part-time position with duties primarily on Wednesdays and Sundays. The Music Director will need to have strengths in building relationships and working across disciplines.
Position Description
The Music Director will serve as the primary administrator of the music ministry of Poplar Tent Presbyterian Church. He / She will be responsible for the planning, organizing, conducting and evaluating a comprehensive music ministry, under the guidance of the pastor and the Worship Committee. He / She will provide a variety of types of music presented, along with traditional hymns. The purpose of this position is to facilitate an atmosphere in which God is worshipped and glorified and to provide direction, oversight, and coordination of musical, artistic, and technical elements of worship services.
Primary Functions
The following is a general list of the basic duties of the Music Director.
- Develop a plan with assistance from the Pastor and Worship Committee for the music ministry.
- Work with the Pastor and Worship Committee in developing creative worship services including the possible use of drama, videos, or other resources to enhance the overall impact and experience of the service.
- Assist the Pastor in selecting hymns for worship and consult with the Pastor in worship planning.
- Lead all music for Sunday services as well as special services as needed (e.g., Maundy Thursday, Easter, Christmas, and other liturgical holidays).
- Assist with weddings and funerals as able. In cases where you cannot assist, then help with finding a replacement.
- Lead and direct the choir during Sunday services and Wednesday night rehearsals.
- Lead and direct the choir in preparation for and presentation of any special music.
- Prepare and work within an approved annual music budget.
- Order all music and music supplies for Music Ministry and maintain the music library.
- Secure maintenance and tuning for instruments as needed.
- Establish, with the input of the choir, rehearsal schedules for any special rehearsals.
- Recruit singers and musicians for participation in worship services.
- Assist with audio / video technicians for Sunday worship services as necessary.
- And other duties as agreed upon with the Pastor and Worship Committee.
- Make fill-in arrangements when unable to perform duties as described during services or practices.

Supervision
The Music Director is directly accountable to and supervised by the Pastor as head of staff, with guidance from the Personnel Committee in coordination with the Pastor.
Salary
Compensation shall be commensurate with gifts, experience, and abilities to fulfill part or all the functions and skills listed herein.
