Job Description – Bookkeeper
Steele Creek Presbyterian Church at Pleasant Hill
Purpose:
The Bookkeeper tracks income to the church, pays bills, manages the payroll and benefits for employees, and prepares regular reports for the church.
Organization:
The Bookkeeper will report to the Senior Pastor with oversight coming from the Session and Administration & Personnel Ministry Team and will work closely with the Finance Ministry Team. The position will be a part-time, staff position. Hours of work will include weekdays and one evening per month.
Responsibilities:
General Banking and Investments
- Oversee sorting, counting, balancing, depositing, and posting receipts
- Post contributions to contributor database on a weekly basis
- Record and post special fund receipts and disbursements
- File and track bills for church general fund
- Process bills for approval by staff, team leaders or committee chairs
- Print checks, post expenses, get checks signed
- Prepare quarterly and year-end contribution statements
Other bookkeeping tasks
- Attend monthly Finance Committee meetings
- Provide Balance Sheet and Income Statements to the Finance Committee and Session
- Reconcile bank statements and make necessary journal entries timely
- Assist Ministry Teams and Session with establishing an Annual Budget
- Serve as the church’s liaison for any audits
- File tax reimbursement requests
Stewardship
- Process, track, and report pledges during campaign
- Support Stewardship Committee as needed
Payroll/Benefits
- Coordinate with payroll biweekly services
- Review and reconcile benefit invoices
- Process new hires and terminations regarding payroll and benefits including COBRA as needed
- Process benefit changes and new benefit enrollments; assist in annual benefit enrollment
Technical Skills Needed:
- Experience with QuickBooks required
- Microsoft Office proficiency – Excel, Word, and Outlook required

Education and Experience Required:
- Associate degree or higher-level education in accounting, bookkeeping or related field
- Two years of related experience
Additional Skills Desired:
- Experience with Church Planning Center software a plus
- Church or non-profit experience preferred
