Popovsky Performing Arts is seeking a Summer Camp Costumer for it's 2025 Summer Camp Season! The Summer Camp Costumer plays a vital role in ensuring the visual storytelling of our shows while balancing creativity, efficiency, and collaboration. The costumer may work simultaneously on two productions, using a combination of our costume closet and a limited budget to create cohesive, polished costumes for young performers.
Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
- Collaborate with directors, choreographers, and teaching artists to understand each show’s vision, characters, and costume needs.
- Pull costumes from our in-house costume closet, creatively repurposing and altering items as needed to meet production requirements.
- Coordinate fittings and alterations for two casts, ensuring all costumes are prepared and functional within 48–72 hours of receiving performer sizes.
- Manage a limited budget for any necessary purchases, prioritizing cost-effective solutions while maintaining quality.
- Organize and maintain the costume closet, keeping it functional and accessible for future productions.
- Assist with costume changes during tech rehearsals and performances, if required.
- Repair, clean, and return costumes to storage after performances.
- Communicate regularly with the creative team to stay aligned on timelines, needs, and expectations.
Qualifications
We are seeking candidates who bring a combination of experience (on and off stage), creativity, playfulness, and leadership.
- Experience in costuming for theatre, including design, sewing, and alterations.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
- Creativity and resourcefulness to repurpose existing pieces and work within a budget.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with a team while maintaining a positive attitude under pressure.
- Familiarity with costume care, maintenance, and basic repairs.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Availability for the duration of the summer camp season (June through early August) with flexibility to meet tight deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience costuming for youth productions or working in a summer camp environment.
- Knowledge of period and character styles in musical theatre
Additional Details:
- Compensation varies depending on experience, skill level, and job responsibilities.
- Positions will be offered based on studio needs and staff availability and will vary from contract to contract.
- Costumers may be hired for work on ONE or BOTH of the shows occurring during any given two-week session.
