Description

The Youth Services Worker will assist other staff with the planning, implementation, and delivery of activities and programming for community youth. They will help with projects, clerical work, support groups, prevention, leadership, cultural activities, sports, indoor and outdoor recreation. An emphasis will be placed on youth physical, mental, cultural, and emotional health, education advocacy, goal planning for youth transitioning to adulthood, employment, and prevention and elimination of risk factors. Must have a flexible schedule to accommodate night and weekend hours (Tuesday to Saturday) and/or all weekend trips.

Duties Include:

  • Program Prevention and Support Activities: Assist in the planning and implement on-going weekly youth programming and activities including but not limited to weekday/ weekend youth center activities, numerous special events, youth support group co-facilitation and using the youth calendar, personal invitations, weekly memo, newsletter, and any other methods of communication to enhance participation in Youth Center programming.
  • Recreation/Sports: Assist in outdoor activities that provide positive, alternative-to-use activities, including but not limited to hiking, camping, rock climbing and rappelling, and water sports. In addition, support additional team sports, such as basketball, by helping at practices and tournaments.
  • Cultural Activities: Support program by assisting in planning and implementation of culturally events and trips for youth such as cultural arts, song and dance and canoe experiences.
  • Community Wide Youth Activities: Work with other staff to implement the youth honoring, annual yearbook, CEDAR Camp, youth conferences, prevention activities, weekly support groups, day and overnight backpacking trips, Youth Leadership, sports tournaments, royalty pageant, and other youth-centered events.
  • Meetings: Attends and participates in various community meetings whose goals directly or indirectly relate to the Youth Services.
  • Personal Contacts: Maintains regular contacts of a positive nature with youth and their families, staff, community members, Tribal staff, various outside agencies, and others to accomplish program objectives and preserve good public relations.
  • Other Duties as Assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: Dedication and willingness to working with at-risk youth. Must have strong interpersonal skills, the ability to work effectively with a wide variety of people, and the ability to build rapport with youth. Requires a lifestyle free from the abuse of alcohol and other drugs, and the ability to be a good role model for youth.
  • Licensing/Certification: Valid Washington State Drivers License and acceptable driving record required (willingness and ability to drive a 15-passenger van). CPR and First Aid Certification recommended.
  • Personal Computer Skills: Basic personal computer skills are required, as well as the ability to learn word processing, spread sheet and other software programs.
  • Background Check: Able to pass a criminal background, fingerprint, and child abuse and neglect record check.
  • Other: Must be 21 years of age

Travel Requirements:

  • Local, statewide, and out of state travel may be required.
  • Travel required to chaperone youth on overnight trips ranging from 1-6 nights in and out of state.

Physical Requirements:

  • Physically capable to participate and provide safety for strenuous and challenging activities.
  • Regularly required to finger, handle, reach with hands and arms
  • Frequently required to walk, sit, stand
  • Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
  • Normal audio and visual acuity

Qualifications


The Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribe is seeking a full-time (35 hrs week) Youth Services Worker who must be at least 21 years of age or turn 21 by 8/31/25. A female is preferred for chaperoning and supervision of girls.
