The Port of Bellingham is a Washington State special purpose municipal corporation serving all of Whatcom County. It is a unique organization that makes significant contributions to the local community through leveraging its resources by directly participating in revenue-earning lines of business, as well as by capitalizing on its strategic assets through special public agency powers.
By using combined expertise in both the business and government sectors, the Port has a role in job preservation and job creation, as well as a role in the operation of transportation facilities for seaports and airports. This combination is distinct from that of either the private sector or other government entities.
Mission Statement: To promote sustainable economic development, optimize transportation gateways, and manage publicly owned land and facilities to benefit Whatcom County.

JOB SUMMARY
The primary responsibility of the Port’s seasonal Park Host is to ensure that the Port’s downtown waterfront pump track and surrounding outdoor space is maintained for high volume utilization. The duties will consist of watering and raking the pump track, ensuring the bathrooms are stocked with toilet paper, paper towels and soap as well as picking up trash and emptying garbage cans to maintain an enjoyable visitor experience to this outdoor space!
This is a full time position; typical workdays are Wednesday-Sunday, 11:00am-8:00pm. Schedule is subject to change depending on operational needs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Maintain the pump track for high utilization making necessary repairs, watering, and moving, shoveling and tamping dirt.
2. Pickup garbage / litter around the site.
3. Maintain a neat and tidy waterfront space by emptying garbage cans prior to overflow.
4. Maintain waterfront restrooms by restocking toilet paper, paper towels, soap, and fill water tanks for portable restrooms. Empty garbage as needed. Report to appropriate Manager or Supervisor when the sharps container needs replacing. Monitor tank levels and request service when needed. Report any graffiti to appropriate person.
5. Post closure signs on waterfront property as requested.
6. Communicate with the public, follow up on questions.
7. Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
Position is responsible for specified tasks within the department and does not supervise the work of other employees. Position may be responsible for representing the Port to the public on a regular basis.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
- Candidates must be at least 16 years of age and be able to provide a Parent/School Authorization form.
- Valid Washington State driver’s license is required.
- Be able to work outdoors in the summer months.
- Be able to move wheel barrels of dirt, use a shovel and tamper.
- Be able to pick up litter and garbage.
- Be self-driven, see what needs to be done and do it.
- Take direction from multiple Port managers.
- Be friendly and cheerful with the public, even those that litter.
