We seek a professional, knowledgeable, Revenue Accountant for a regular, full-time position. The essential responsibilities for the Revenue Accountant may include, but are not limited to, the following:

The Revenue Accountant is responsible for providing financial, administrative, and clerical services to ensure effective, efficient, and accurate financial and administrative operations. Essential responsibilities for the Revenue Accountant may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Processes new lease agreements and updates to current lease agreements in the system of record.
  • Works with Senior Revenue Accountant to process lease billings accurately and timely.
  • Prepares auxiliary tasks, such as utility billing and work necessary to support lease agreements.
  • Collaborates with Senior Accountant to ensure lease requirements under GASB 87 are adhered to and properly accounted for.
  • Prepares and processes invoices for all departments-Marine, Terminal, Facilities, Rail, Property, Contracts and Economic Development.
    • Maintains files for Accounts Receivable, Sales and Lease contracts and customer PO’s.
    • Collects and analyzes all billing documentation to ensure for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
    • Verifies that transactions comply with financial policies and procedures.
    • Reviews selected revenue accounts for discrepancies and reconciles differences. Maintains and tracks Marine related tonnage, revenue, and guarantee CAPS/MAG balances according to contract or agreement.
    • Maintains billing system and assists with customizing new reports for better tracking and reporting.
  • Posts data to various ledgers, registers, and journals according to established accounting techniques and procedures.
  • Prepares adjusting memos and journal entries at month end and year end close.
  • Works with key stakeholders to resolve systems issues as needed.
  • Works with Marine, Sales, Operations, Facilities and Property Departments on projects, reports, data, statistics, recommendations, or requests as required.
  • Prepares Lease and Marine statistical reports for monthly financial statements.
  • Prepares and files quarterly Leasehold Taxes with the Department of Revenue.
  • Assists with annual audit performed by State Auditor’s Office by preparing financial reports and supporting documents and auditor’s requests.
  • Communicates effectively with customers and other departments on work status and issues.
  • Responds to and resolves customer inquiries using tact and discretion.
  • Works with Senior Revenue Accountant and Property Department to review all Lease agreements, Lease schedule updates, calculations, and audit spreadsheets for billing purposes.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Actively supports the Port’s mission and vision and demonstrates values consistently.
  • Works effectively as a team player with all Port employees.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education:
Requires bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration or related field, or any equivalent combination of education and experience needed to competently perform the essential duties of the position.

Experience:
Two (2) to four (4) years of significant accounting experience. Lease accounting experience preferred.

License/Certification:
Valid, unrestricted driver’s license. Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC Card) upon hire.

Analytical skills:
Strong ability to gather and analyze data, identify key variables, and develop results-oriented conclusions.

Communication Skills:
Excellent verbal and written communications skills. Must be able to communicate effectively across the organization and deliver formal presentations in a variety of settings.

Organizational skills:
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects, balancing short- and long-term objectives under time constraints.

Problem solving skills
: Logically think through and solve complex problems involving multiple variables while remaining objective and focused on finding solutions.

Computer Skills:
Advanced skills in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, with the ability to learn and utilize new software as needed.

Physical Requirements:
  • Physical ability to sit, stand, and bend for extended periods throughout the workday.
  • Talk, hear, walk, push/pull, and reach on a frequent to regular basis.
  • Repetitive hand motions on a frequent basis including fingering, grasping, and handling.
  • Ability to read handwritten and typed documents on paper and/or on computer screens.
  • May stoop or kneel on an occasional to seldom basis.
  • Ability to lift or carry objects weighing up to 25 lbs. and drive on an as-needed basis.
  • Work is generally performed in an office environment but may occur at various outdoor locations where adverse weather conditions, uneven ground, exposure to moving machinery and moderate to loud noise is common.
