Job Description:
Deployment and recovery of oil spill containment boom.
Energy terminals advise us of ship / barge arrivals. Our employees use small boats to tow (deploy) floating oil spill containment boom around the vessels and set anchors on arrival to a dock. The vessel then pumps off its cargo. Our staff return to the job site upon completion of the vessels discharge to tow the boom away (recover) so the vessel can sail. We perform this task and also perform boom system maintenance and upkeep for our clients periodically. Some weeks are busy, some are slow.
Company Information:
Our company Sea Support/Port Security Services is also a spill response operation and a Restricted Area security provider. Energy terminals, ships, tug and barge companies may call us if they need oil spill containment booming; have an oil spill; need MTSA Restricted Area security or escorts. Finally, our company periodically performs bridge watch work for various clients.
This job is ideal for someone looking for extra/supplemental income and potentially could become a solid part-time or full time down the road.
Pay:
Flat rate based on location per job. Base hourly rate assigned for other projects.
The Marine Vessel Operator:
- Deploys and recovers oil spill containment boom as scheduled
- Performs boom system maintenance and upkeep of system
- Base hours are on an “On-Call” basis but usually work in excess of 10-30 hours per seven (7) day week depending on your availability and amount of work.
Qualifications for eligibility include:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Ability to multi-task under pressure
- CT Boat Captain License a Plus
- Excellent customer service skills
- Demonstrated ability to manage people and direct personnel
- Good working knowledge of Excel, Word, Outlook required
- Some mechanical aptitude preferred
- Experience in the marine industry desired but not essential
