Description

The Position

The Paper Production Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the paper machine, ensuring that production goals are met while maintaining safety, quality, and efficiency. This role requires strong leadership skills to manage the paper machine crew, troubleshoot operational issues, and optimize production processes. The Paper Production Supervisor plays a key role in meeting customer demands by ensuring that the product is made to specification and produced in a timely manner.

The Port Townsend Paper (“PTPC”) mill is proud to have been in continuous operation for more than 90 years. We use a blend of virgin and recycled fibers (Kraft and OCC pulp) to produce Kraft pulp, paper, containerboard, medium and market pulp. Key Responsibilities

  1. Supervise Production Operations
    • Oversee the daily operations of the paper machine, ensuring smooth production flow.
    • Meet with Maintenance each day to establish work priorities for equipment.
    • Monitor machine performance and product quality, making adjustments as needed to meet production targets.
    • Coordinate with Paper Machine Supervisors and operators to ensure safe and efficient work practices.
  2. Ensure Safety Compliance
    • Promote a strong safety culture by ensuring adherence to company safety policies and procedures.
    • Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments.
    • Lead safety meetings and participate in incident investigations when necessary.
  3. Quality Control
    • Ensure that all production meets the company’s quality standards.
    • Work with the quality control team to resolve issues and implement corrective actions.
    • Monitor key quality metrics and lead continuous improvement efforts.
  4. Team Leadership & Development
    • Lead, mentor, and motivate the paper machine crew to achieve performance goals.
    • Provide training and development opportunities to improve team skills and competencies.
    • Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback for growth.
  5. Troubleshooting & Problem Solving
    • Diagnose and resolve machine or process issues in a timely manner.
    • Work closely with the maintenance team to ensure machine reliability and minimize downtime.
  6. Production Reporting & Metrics
    • Monitor production data, including machine performance, material usage, and downtime.
    • Report daily production outcomes to management and suggest improvements.
    • Track and manage key performance indicators (KPIs) to ensure alignment with business objectives.
  7. Process Optimization
    • Work on continuous improvement projects to improve production efficiency, reduce waste, and optimize machine performance.
    • Assist in the development and implementation of best practices in paper machine operations.
  8. Coordinate with Other Departments
    • Collaborate with maintenance, pulp mill and logistics teams to ensure efficient operations.

Qualifications


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or related field preferred, or equivalent experience in paper production.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a supervisory role, preferably in a paper production environment.
  • Strong knowledge of paper machine operations, quality control systems, and safety regulations.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex machine issues.
  • Effective communication and leadership skills to manage a team.
  • Proficiency in production software and reporting tools.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in a production environment with exposure to loud machinery, heat, and paper dust.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand or walk for long periods.
  • Must be able to work rotating shifts, including nights and weekends as necessary.

Employment Terms

  • Full-time, Exempt position, with overtime as required.
  • Salary range: $120,000 to $150,000 DOE.
  • 3 weeks paid vacation.
  • 9 paid holidays and one paid personal holiday per calendar year.

  • In compliance with the Immigration and Naturalization Act, proof of authorization to work in the United States will be required at the time of hire.
  • Prior to a new hire, a background check including criminal record history will be conducted. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant’s suitability and competence to perform in the position.

Salary : $120,000 - $150,000
