What are the responsibilities and job description for the Recovery Specialist position at Portage County Ohio?
JOB OBJECTIVES: Under the direction of the Chief of Probation and/or Assistant Chief and Unit Supervisor. The incumbent is responsible for processing referrals for the Specialized Dockets as well as complete eligibility evaluations and reports.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
This position involves providing staff support for the specialized docket and Probation officers in the Probation Department.
- Obtain signatures for all proper releases of information with the candidate
- Conducts client orientation upon program entrance
- Attends Specialized Docket Status Hearings and Team Meetings as needed
- Completes OneOhio forms and submits copies as required
- Assists in collecting and mailing out drug and/or alcohol screens
- Maintains 20 hours of training per year annually
- Identifies, pre-screens and documents potential candidates for the programs incarcerated in the jail on a daily basis
- Document all contacts with clients as well as collateral contacts
- Facilitates evidence-based cognitive skills group, Thinking For a Change (T4C) on an on-going basis
- Schedules and attends grant funded family groups on a quarterly basis
- Completes any duties as described in awarded grant applications
Serves as a role model, mentor, and motivator to Specialized Docket clients in order to help promote long-term substance and mental health recovery. Duties include:
- Maintains logs and provides reports as necessary, assists with recertification to benefit the Specialized Docket Courts
- Facilitates groups as assigned
- Keeps statistics as directed
- Assists clients with community resources (in-patient beds, MAT referrals, detox, etc.)
- Assists the clients with obtaining services that suit their recovery needs (communities of recovery, self-help groups, spiritual, professional services, etc.)
- Meeting with clients one-on-one using problem solving techniques
- Reinforcing individual and group support information to learn how to identify and calm negative self-talk and fear based thinking
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Performs other job-related duties as directed by Supervisor.
- Performs back-up duties for the Administration as directed.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Equipment: Incumbent operates equipment such as, but not limited to, the following: Copy machine, computer terminal, personal computer, facsimile machine, printing equipment, telephone, surgical gloves, face mask and you may be required to travel by car (department’s or personal).
Critical Skills/Expertise:
- A minimum of five (5) consecutive years of lived experience in recovery.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of Court procedures.
- Demonstrate an understanding of oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrate an understanding of department office equipment (computer, phone, fax, scanner, copier, etc.)
- Knowledge of Portage County Adult Probation policies, rules, regulations, and procedures.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of Specialized Dockets
- Exhibits problem solving skills with an emphasis in crisis management/intervention.
- Demonstrate knowledge and exhibit the proper methods and procedures for disposal of bio-hazardous waste and materials.
- Demonstrate knowledge and exhibit the proper methods and Drug /Alcohol procedures.
- Possess oral and written communication skills necessary to elicit information utilizing Basic and Motivational Interviewing Techniques
- Demonstrate computer literacy and/or technical competency necessary to complete departmental tasks including but not limited to; Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and web-based applications (OCSS).
- Knowledge of community resources available to recovery clients.
