Job Title: General Maintenance

Summary:
To maintain the grounds throughout the Portage Township School District.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform routine maintenance of building interiors, exteriors, and grounds.
- Inspect, maintain, and repair equipment and tools as needed.
- Conduct general repairs, including basic carpentry, painting, plumbing, and electrical work.
- Maintain exterior areas, including sidewalks, parking lots, and landscaped spaces.
- Perform seasonal grounds maintenance, such as mowing, trimming, pruning, snow removal, and salting.
- Operate and maintain equipment such as mowers, tractors, trimmers, and hand tools.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations.
- Monitor inventory and report the need for supplies or repairs.
- Respond to maintenance requests in a timely and efficient manner.
- Assist with setup and teardown for school events and activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Building and Grounds.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- 1-3 years of experience in general maintenance equipment.
- Mechanically inclined, ability to move heavy equipment
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Holds a valid driver’s license and has reliable transportation to/from work.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands, push and pull, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and climb, talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb and balance. The employee must regularly lift and or move items weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move items weighing up to 100 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to focus.
Operates lawn care equipment (zero radius mowers, bath wing tractor, push mowers), string trimmers, edgers, spreads mulch, pick up leaves, branches, twigs and debris.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to wet or dry conditions, fumes or airborne particles, noise and vibration.
