Job Title: – Pace Virtual Academy Principal – Portage High School Asst. Principal
Location: Portage Township Schools
Reports To: Director of Curriculum & Instruction / Portage High School Principal
Job Summary:
This dual-role position serves as a half-time Assistant Principal at Portage High School and half-time Principal of Pace Virtual Academy, the district’s virtual learning program. The administrator will work closely with students, staff, and families in both settings to provide instructional leadership, promote student achievement, support engagement and discipline, and ensure an inclusive and positive school culture.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Pace Virtual Academy (½ Day)

Oversee the student enrollment process, including application intake, placement decisions, and communication with families.

Lead and facilitate student orientation to ensure a smooth transition into virtual learning, including platform training and expectations.

Collaborate with mentor teachers to support instruction, monitor student progress, and provide academic interventions.

Manage student discipline and behavior expectations, applying district policies in a virtual setting.

Address truancy by monitoring attendance data and working with families to develop and implement support plans.
Communicate regularly with students and parents to maintain engagement, resolve concerns, and celebrate successes. - Ensure compliance with district, state, and federal guidelines for virtual education, including special education services and testing.
- Use student data to drive decisions related to engagement, achievement, and program improvements.
Portage High School (½ Day)
Assist with daily school operations, including student supervision, hallway management, and other duties as assigned.- Support building-wide discipline, conflict resolution, and restorative practices.
- Collaborate with administrative and counseling teams on attendance, behavior, and academic interventions.
- Assist with school events, safety protocols, emergency response drills, and supervision schedules.
- Participate in teacher evaluations, walkthroughs, and staff development efforts.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience; experience in both traditional and virtual settings preferred.
- Demonstrated leadership experience at the secondary level.
- Strong understanding of instructional technology and virtual learning platforms.
Skills & Competencies:
Effective time management and ability to balance two dynamic roles.- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with students, staff, and families.
- Collaborative mindset with a commitment to student success in both traditional and virtual environments.
- Proficient in student data systems, online communication tools, and educational technology.
