TITLE: Teacher-Kindergarten
LICENSURE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Appropriate Educational Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree or greater
- Appropriate NM Licensure: ECE B-3 or ECE PreK-3 preferred, or Elementary K-8
- Experience in Early Childhood preferred
Begin Date: Beginning of 2025/2026 School Year
The Kindergarten Teacher creates a positive learning environment to facilitate students' personal, social, and intellectual development. Previous experience working with young children in an educational setting is preferred.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Accurately demonstrate knowledge of the content area and approved curriculum.
- Communicates with and obtains feedback from students, enhancing student learning and understanding.
- Implement classroom management strategies and foster social-emotional development.
- Recognize student diversity and create an atmosphere conducive to promoting positive student involvement and self-concept.

Physical Requirements:
The ability to sit, stand, lift, and carry (up to 50 lbs), reach, squat, kneel, and move light furniture is required. The Kindergarten Teacher should be able to stand, walk, and move around for long durations.
Working with young children can be physically demanding, especially when managing large groups. Maintaining high energy levels throughout the day, and responding to children's needs is essential.
An FBI fingerprint background check will be conducted on all new hires of the Portales Municipal Schools. Continued employment will be contingent upon the results of the background check.

Portales Municipal Schools are located in the City of Portales, which has a population of about 12,000. The area's economy is based primarily on agriculture. Portales is the home of Eastern New Mexico University and is less than 20 miles from Cannon Air Force Base near Clovis, NM.
The Portales Municipal School District consists of six grade-level schools. This means that each school, except the high school, consists of two grade levels and is not community-based. Portales High School houses grades 9-12, while Brown Early Childhood Center is grades PK-K; James Elementary is 1st and 2nd grade; Valencia Elementary consists of grades 3rd and 4th; Lindsey/Steiner Elementary is grades 5th and 6th; and Portales Junior High is the home of 7th and 8th-grade students.
