Part-time Lower School Reading Teacher (Grades 2 & 3) 2024-25
Porter-Gaud School is an Episcopal, independent, co-educational day school of 1,650 students in preschool through grade 12. The Lower School division has an opening for a part-time Reading Teacher (Grades 1- 3) beginning February 19th, 2025. Our Lower School division is composed of grades 1 through 4.
The Part-time Lower School Reading Teacher will be required to teach second and third grade students in reading. This person will be able to work both independently and collaboratively and will be able to teach effectively from the established grade level curriculum and adapt this curriculum to meet the needs of students. This is a part-time position and therefore will not be eligible for most full time benefits.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Creates a challenging learning environment that encourages a love of learning and respect for others.
- Establishes and actively maintains a class environment where excellence in learning is honored and where respectful interactions between and among students are valued.
- Employs a variety of instructional techniques and assessments which address multiple learning styles.
- Participates as an active team member on the second and third grade teams.
- Communicates effectively with all constituencies within the school.
- Willingness to support diversity and inclusion efforts at the school. The Lower School teacher will display a continuous commitment to developing the attitudes, knowledge, and skills (intercultural competence) to engage in appropriate and effective communication with students, colleagues, and families from diverse backgrounds and perspectives. We desire candidates who will contribute to the school's efforts to continue creating a more inclusive and equitable community where all individuals can develop a sense of belonging.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; degree in elementary education or early childhood education is preferred. The School highly values advanced degrees, such as Master's and Doctorates, and considers them not only in determining compensation but also when selecting and prioritizing candidates.
- Related teaching experience; experience in an independent school setting preferred.

Reporting: The Lower School Part-time Reading Teacher reports directly to the Head of Lower School.
Salary: Salary offer will be commensurate with experience.
